I've been counting calories for a little over 3 weeks now and i've never counted vegetables in the total. Is that bad? I just figured that veggies are good for you, low in calories and have little to no fat in them so i shouldn't count them.
I don't eat an abundance of them, i usually have a salad with lunch and a cup or so of veggies with dinner.
If you want to be honset with your intake, I would count them. While they don't have a lot of calories in them, they do have some! And, add more of them to your diet! They are a great way to get a lot of bang for few calories! Long live the baby carrot!
I count them, to keep track of nutrition and to log that I do eat them. I am sure you can be successful if you don't log them, however (esp the non-starchy ones)... WW lets you have them "free" I think. If you don't count them, do know that they do add some calories and maybe adjust your intake accordingly.
Since many veggies have such a low calorie count, as I imagine you're aware, I don't think it would throw your daily count off too much to not count them. Just don't use that as an excuse not to count other things, like for example, if one day you add some black olives to your salad. An important part of calorie counting for me is constantly seeing the results of my eating directly reflected in the numbers.
Personally, I find it somewhat motivating to log in my veggies -- reminds that for a mere 50 or so calories, I can have a giant salad.
You'll often hear 'whatever works for you'. And so ... if it's working ... go for it. The advantage I can see is that if you do have a slow down or stall, you can start counting them and see what difference it makes..
I'm a detaily person so I count everything but coffee, tea, water and diet coke.
And I'm a bit like Bobbidipity ... I love to see a big long list of foods I've eaten and have the total low anyhow
I count them, too. Like SusanB, I'm a "detaily" person, so I like to see them on the list at the end of the day.
Also, I'm not a big fan of veggies anyway (sad to admit, but there it is), so part of listing them reminds me that they *need* to be there. And, as long as I have to eat them, I figure I may as well get credit for it! So another part of me lists them as if to say, "There, see? I did eat them".
Although I really am getting to like the baby carrots. Especially with a mere hint of ranch dip (I count the dip too, don't worry). Whodathunk I'd ever like a vegetable?
