I think that's a pretty good plan to start. As you become more comfortable with the changes you've made, you can tweak it as you see fit.
I believe the key to lasting success is to find something
you can live with for the rest of your life. You can get ideas from other people, but ultimately you need to settle with something you're happy with. It's easy to stick with almost any plan for a few weeks, but getting rid of large amounts of excess weight, takes a heck of a lot longer than that!
I started off counting kcals (1600 plus unlimited "free" veggies), and stayed with that for about 6 months. During this period, I started eating a healthy breakfast, added more exercise (still not too much, really!

), and refined my food choices to include more fibre (upped the veggies and whole grains), and less fatty snacks. Now that I'm comfortable with what works, I've stopped slavishly counting kcals, and instead aim for healthy choices (usually

) and reasonably sized portions.
In the beginning, I cut out butter (and a few other things) completely because I couldn't trust myself to exercise restraint. Now, I'm able to have my "trigger" foods around. I can weigh out a portion of whatever I fancy, and know I'll be satisfied with it. (For those that know me, I've had an open packet of Munchies in my cupboard for the last month, and I haven't touched them!

) For the first time in my life, I actually feel comfortable around food. To be sure, I still have "off" times, where I prowl the kitchen looking for something to stuff down, but these times are getting fewer as time progresses. I think that's because nothing is off limits to me now. It was a revelation to me how quickly a craving disappears when I know I can have that food whenever I want. (I think I picked up that piece of info from some wise sage on this forum.

)
Anyway, I've rambled enough about me.

I'm not sure where all that came from!
I wish you every success in your quest for a healthier you.
