Sounds similar to the other "delivered meals ready to eat" diets that have popped up recently - spurred on by the recent success of Nutrisystem and others - this one being more pricey though at $170 a week (that's a LOT of money!).
If you check General Diet Plans you'll see several threads on similar plans. My take on this is - if having MREs delivered to you works and you can stick to eating preportioned preplanned meals (I notice that although the website boasts of the 'freshest raw ingredients' used, most of the snacks consist of protein bars, shakes, cookies and chips) - personally *I* couldn't stick with it but your mileage may vary - it really comes down to calories ya know
I think the meals look great, but I'm also not a big fan of protein shakes/bars/etc. I've been looking at a lot of similar services lately, and most of them offer snacks that are borderline junk food. No one ever offers snacks such as fruit salad or hummus and pita chips.
It looks like Diet to your Door is more affordable than some of the other similar fresh food diet services, though they are not as well known. I'm in the middle of reviewing a variety of diet programs that provide your food. I just finished Nutrisystem, and am going to do Jenny Craig and Fresh Cuisine next. I might add this one to the list
I just started this yesterday. The food is really great. I think I will miss fresh fruit and veggies though. (I mean, let's be honest. It's not like I was eating many fruit and veggies anyway.) In the summer I am more likely to eat them now than I would be at any other time so I will need to make arrangements for that. But I so far not bad. I'm a little hungry and I think part of it is carb withdrawel. (I lived on cereal, waffles and ice cream for the last 6 months.)
I tried it and I also missed the fruit. But the food was good and I was never hungry. I enjoyed the vegetable varieties and I when I left the plan, I found myself more conscious of the amounts and varieties of vegetables I was eating. So I picked up a good habit Did you get the full plan with the protein bars, chips, and cookies? Those really helped me each day because I also find I can't live on chicken and veggies alone, lol. I no longer eat chicken, just seafood and vegetarian meals, so the program isn't something I would be able to do again. I tried it after having sampled a week of Nutrisystem that was probably the most horrible week of my life, lol. D2YD was soooo much better, in my personal opinion. I'd like to find something comparable that is geared to vegetarians.
I'm on the full plan (for now, let's see how long I can afford it). But I think I will need to figure out how to get some fresh fruits and veggies. So far so good though. I just ate the yummiest coconut thai chicken with a ton of veggies. I mean, who would have thought I'd eat that!?!?!?
Personally I think ANY meal plan that has you avoiding fresh fruits and veggies is very lacking. They are great sources of nutrition and you get a lot of most of them for very few calories... and I am fully convinced our bodies process them SO much better than junk food -- which I consider processed food bars, chips and stuff to be. But just my opinion.
shellshocked, I don't know about that plan but I have been on eDiets express for close to 3 months now (actually just a little over 2 months) and have lost 28 pounds so far. I tried Nutrisystem for several weeks before dropping it because the food wasn't good and I wasn't losing much weight at all. The eDiets food is very good, better than most of the stuff I can cook at home, and it is very easy to deal with. It is also supposedly all fresh ingredients and cooked by gourmet chefs. I don't know if all that is true but it certainly tastes greats. I signed up on www.ediets.com (or go directly to the meal delivery site of www.edietsexpress.com).
If you try it out please post your results. Good luck with whatever choice you make!
Mona, just curious. I looked at the site and see they deliver meals to your door once a week, yet call them fresh. Eating week old meals doesn't seem very "fresh" to me. Yet they say no preservatives. There are no samples of actual ingredients that I could find on the website. Do you receive lists of what is actually IN the meals when they are delivered? Are these vacuum sealed some way that makes them actually seem fresh?
Misti, the packages do list the ingredients and the food is vacuum-packed. I don't really know what to look for in the ingredients to detect preservatives or anything. I can only compare it to Nutrisystems and Medifast, both of which I tried. The food is much better than Nutrisystems in my opinion (Medifast is mostly bars and shakes). They're both kind of TV-dinner quality but the eDiets ones just a better quality. A friend of mine at my gym is going to begin eDiets as well so I'll see if her opinion is the same or whether my tastes are just different.
Thanks! I have to say that when I looked at the sample menus they sounded pretty good. Not for me as I am a firm believer in fresh fruits and veggies and cooking my own meats and stuff, mostly on weekends to freeze... but great for people who can afford them and don't mind eating the prepackaged stuff. The site says they have no preservatives but doesn't say anything about chemicals or other added ingredients. But good that that info is there on the packages for you. Hope it works for you.
I was on Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating, when it was still just a local business (I actually worked in the hospital with Seattle's husband, Dr. Sutton), and you weighed in at the center every week. The meals were pretty good, and around $70 a week (now I think they're closer to $100 or a bit more in bigger cities). You pick up the food twice a week at the distribution center, or you pay a bit extra to have it delivered to your home (delivery not available everywhere). The food was good, but in general, a bit bland (since they have to try to please all tastes) you don't have any menu choices. The menu cycles every four or five weeks, and includes fresh fruits and veggies. Their menus are listed on their website (Google SSHE or Seattle Sutton, and you should find it).
I enjoyed it, but it worked best for me when I was living alone (because I only kept milk, and a few extra veggies in the fridge). I stopped using it when my sister moved in with me, because I was getting bored, broke, and tempted by what she was keeping in the fridge.
Now, my husband and I really need to lose weight, and we joked that it would be great to have someone else cook for us, but we definitely don't have an $800 a month food budget.
I keeping big advertising signs around here for one called Meals to Go. Went to the website out of curiosity but switched me over to another one which said it doesn't deliver here. Strange. Guess these things are starting to become popular.
