Default Walking of the excess weight

to Walking of the Excess Weight.

I have taken the liberty to start up this thread for those that are using 'walking' as their form of exercise.

All are welcome to come and post how they are doing with their walking.

Keep a record here of the time you spend daily / weekly walking and / or the miles you have walked or maybe just the steps recorded per day or week. Decide what is the best way for you to record your 'movement.'

So a new month is about to start - for those that would like to set a goal for the month of March - please do so and then keep us informed on how you are doing.

now let's all get up and start moving and groven

I could stand this. I do keep track but some accountability might get me to the gym a bit more. I have a goal to burn 100,000 calories walking (that would be 28 lbs, but I would settle, (I would be ecstatic) for a 20 lb weight loss from it). I usually walk for an hour on the treadmill and burn about 515 calories a session. Hoping to increase that by increasing speed/incline. Been trying to raise it the past few weeks but my heart rate starts to go up too high, so right now I seem to pretty much be able to do 3.9 mph at a 6% incline.

For March, I would like to burn a minimum of 11,000 calories.

Default Hi Budda

Was just going to head off to bed but thought I would have a look and low and behold you had posted.

Sounds like you have a good plan there - knowng what you would like to do for March.

Myself I am going to be just plain old walking. I have the walk away the pounds tape which my daughter just loves, plus I have some CD's that are made for walking - actually they are Scripture based and when you walk to one of them - about 50 minutes - you really feel the workout. Plus I have in the past gone to our rec plex (concourse at the hockey rink) and walked. I have a friend that wants to start walking there - so will be going in the morning with her.

For March I am looking at starting at 30 minutes a day - and this will give me 1/2 a mile (did it on Friday in that time) and am going to be working to get up to walking for 60 minutes a day. I am wanting to get the 1/2 mile up to 1 mile within 30 minutes - with time it will come. With March having 31 days I am aiming for 15 - 31 miles to be walked. Going to give it a good push to make it to 31 miles.

And of course with this walking comes the drinking of lots of water - 8 glasses per day min.

Hey! I so need to get myself moving more. I've been down with a nasty case of the cold.

I've been trying to walk 3 times a week for 30 mins, and then recording it into my calendar so that I can see my progress. I don't have a specific calorie goal here. Any pound lost is a smile on my face!

I have been, when housebound, working out to Denise Austin's DVD for indoor walking. My only complaint with that is that it's only 15 mins per session, so oftentimes I have to try to keep walking or else repeat the session again. So I usually keep walking and turn to the country music channel for music. Usually does the trick.

My goal is to up my walking from 30 mins to an hour, so hopefully I can do that tomorrow with a new route I have in mind.

I'd like to join you too if that's ok I will warn you however that I've been a bit of a failure lately, both with my dieting and exercise Just haven't been able to get motivated. I always start off well, but after a week or two I lose my motivation to carry on ... now I realise that we're about to start the third month of the year and I'm still in the same position that I was in when the year started!

I recently joined a challenge thread thinking that it would help to keep me motivated ... all the other ladies on there were really enthusiastic and doing so well, I simply couldn't keep up with them and it made me feel like a failure when I didn't do as well as them ... it made me feel under too much pressure to compete ... and I don't want to have to compete with others ... I simpy need to do it at my own pace. Does that make sense?

Anyway, this thead sounds like a good place for me to come without feeling under pressure to compete with anyone else ... just start off at my own pace and slowly build up. I plan to simply walk for exercise and gradually increase my speed/distance.

Due to my husband being on medication for high blood pressure, and the fact that I have a family history of high blood pressure, we have both just started to follow an eating plan to help him lower his, and hopefully to prevent me from getting it.

So, I'm just starting a new healthy eating plan, and tomorrow is the start of a new month when I plan to seriously get into walking ... without any pressure.

I look forward to coming here regularly to both give and receive encouragement and support.

Default Good morning everyone

Thought I would come here and check in before my day gets too busy.

My daughter Priscilla is about to go out with her support worker for a few hours (Priscilla has Down Syndrome).

When she leave hubby and I are heading out to the Rec Plex (concourse around the hockey rink) and are going to walk with a friend. I have been only able to do 1/2 mile last Thursday and Friday but am going to see if I an up that to 3/4 - 1 mile today. Then this afternoon I plan to do the Walk Away the Pounds Tape 1 mile and later this evening before getting comfy in from of the TV I am planning on putting on a CD of music - Scripture verses song to be used as a workout. Would like to to 10 - 15 minutes of those.

Eating: Need to watch portion control in this area. Have had an attacked of IBS the last few days so have to keep everything light right now until things settle down - which means chicken noodle soup, jello and milk pudding mostly.
I am going to work on getting in 4 bottles of water today.

We are having funny weather - snowed end of last week, then started to rain on the weekend. It rained most of yesterday and then froze last night - hubby says it is terrible outside - our driveway is like a skating rink so it is going to be interesting to get Priscilla out of the house.

organicegirl - 3 miles each day - looking forward to being able to do that myself

Fat in Hong Kong - please don't feel like a failure - don't feel pressured. Just do what you can each day - taking it one day at a time. And come and post often

NemesisClause - good plan for walking 3 times per week. The tapes will help - I didn't realize she had any out for walking. The Walk Away the Pounds Tape by Leslie Sansome are great - she has 1, 2, 3 and 4 mile walk with the 1 mile one done in 15 minutes. I have the 1, 2 and 3 all on one CD - and at this time I usually only do the 1 mile walk - but even just walking to the music on the radio or any CD would be good.

Well, should run and see what I can get done before my walking.

Hi, I'd like to add my 2 cents too! I plan to walk 6x a week for 30 minutes each day. I'm doing pretty good but it's amazing how many excuses I can come up with not to do it!! LOL

I have the treadmill turned towards the TV, hubby just bought a HUGE 50 inch HDTV and that got me thinking!! I love travel shows and on that huge screen it makes you feel like you are there!
So I just ordered a whole bunch of travel DVD's, like Rick Steves and others from the library!!

Lots of SUNNY places like Kauai, Bora bora, Italy etc.
Now when I walk I'll be able to dream and plan a vacation!! or just dream, lol!

Default Checking in after walking

Well I got in one of my walks today - about 10 am went for a walk with hubby and a friend. Did 1/2 mile in 30 minutes and then we had to run and do some chores - but I got in the 1/2 mile.

So my walking now looks like this from my starting date:
Feb 23 2006 start date: 1 1/2 miles completed to date

Not much so you can see I really have to work on this. We are about to have supper - an early one - and then around 6 pm I will be doing the Walk Away the Pounds 1 mile tape - need to get my daughter more into moving also. So am looking at having my total miles increased before going to bed tonight.

Water wise: doing good so far - 2 bottles (4 glasses) so far.

Organicgirl: Haven't been at the WW site - would love to be able to afford to go to their meetings but we are about to be going on pension so the cost of attending meetings is just out of our budget at this time. Doctor recommends their food plan though - need to look into it more and see if I can get enough info to follow it at home without the meetings. Just all the 'handouts' when you start that are so good to get.

aschenbrodel - sounds interesting to do the walking while watching travel videos - let the imagine go while and think you are actually walking there.

I have started enjoying putting in CD's and walking to them - getting some of all the 'oldies but goodies' out and walk and sing along. Daughter laughs when I do this but she is laughing and singing even louder - really funny to hear her.

Well goal is to walk 31 miles - have gotten 1 1/2 down so that leaves me 29 1/2 miles to go

Got to 'run' supper is just about ready and need to set the table!!

WoW, I found a site that suits me perfectly! Every day I rise at 4:57am to jump on the tredmil for a good 90 min. and then by the end of the day I accumulate 20,000 steps which is the equilivant of 10 miles! I am an avid walker and never take a day of rest, I know some may think this is over kill, but it works so well for me. I have so much energy to tackle everyday obsticles and I sleep pretty well every night. The only struggle in my day is those first ten - twenty minutes on the tredmil because my body has not quite adjusted to.....being awake, but after my 90 minutes, I feel fantastic! I would reccomend waking up and tackling your walking routine before the day starts(even if it is only 20 min) because after you feel so much better about yourself and are filled with a lot of confidence! But I am not forcing you, as long as you get some excersice thats FINE!!!!
