So, Girl Scout cookies are in, and I swear to you they are of the DEVIL!!! I don't know what makes them so good. Maybe it's the fact that they are only around for a short amount of time. I hate them.....because I love them so!
I bought 4 boxes this year (much better than years past), but I'm going to have to seriously stay on top of me being accountable to myself. I also know that my dh finds the addicting to, so he asked me to hide them. My goal right now is to bag them up into serving sizes and allow myself one bag each day. Most of the servings are only 130 calories or less, so it won't kill my daily intake.
How do you all deal with foods you love but can end up being bad for you? Do you simply keep them out of the house? Do you allow yourself treats on special occasions? What do you do?
Just curious......
The single serving thing is a good idea, if you can stick to it. Otherwise, throw the boxes in the freezer, take out one roll a week or something. When they're gone for that week, they're gone. (Plus, remind yourself that they are awful frozen, the cheap chocolate gets all waxy!) Good luck!
Apryl -- My problem would be that I LOVE those thin mints frozen!
I ran into this problem with Cheetos and pumpkin pie last year. In both cases I didn't go overboard, but I had a tendency to eat more than one serving (never more than two). The bigger problem was that I OBSESSED over those foods. I thought all day about when I how I would fit them in. I don't want a passion for food to overwhelm me like that. I don't want food to control me, I want to control the food.
I love GS cookies... especially those thin mints. I don't know what I'll do other years, but I chose not to bring them into the house this year.
I'm doing the same thing with ice cream. None in the house, but I can go out every now and then for a treat.
Yep...none in the house is my rule. I have absolutly no will power. Along with the Easter Candy, I have written off Girl Scout Cookies this year. Just not worth it.
When I first started "dieting" I just kept them out of the house. After I had been low carbing (somersizing) for a couple of months, most of my cravings for sweets disappeared.
Now I let the kids keep some junk (Choc chip cookie dough is in the frig now), but not much. They don't need it anymore than I do! Any treats I buy them now are small single servings. No more half gallons of ice cream to be tempted by. In the past I would have bought a big container and told myself how much cheaper it was to buy it that way. But I finally realized it costs me more than I thought!
just throw them away! they're nothing but empty callories and if you reallyhave a craving there are plenty of great recipes on this website and many othersthat arehealthy. if you throw them away all you have to do is be strong once and then they're gone if you keep them you have to stay strong every time you go into your kitchen!
Try being a girl scout leader and having to deal with 100s of cases of those evil things!!! Our cookies were delivered today but I was too sick to help unload them. I have a severely infected ear and a busted eardrum.
if you throw them away all you have to do is be strong once and then they're gone if you keep them you have to stay strong every time you go into your kitchen!
That is very true!
But you aren't the only guy on 3fc! I know of at least... half a dozen! Welcome, Andrew!
Keep them in the freezer. Take them out one at a time for a treat & let them defrost. Eat slowly. Savor every bite. That is the only way to deal w/them.
Wow, SAPF. You should stay in sales (if you're not)! My GD sold about 200 this year (a lot of thanks to Daddy). Of course, I'm a good customer too. I bought my usual 8 boxes even though I still have two in the freezer from last year. Three I plan to give to my young and thin neighbor - she eats very well but does like GS cookies. I bought more variety this year as I use them up by serving them to other people but of course, I eat them then. The ones in the freezer are shortbread and those lower calorie ones they had last year (lemon somethings). I have some of last year's shortbreads in the cookie jar too and they're still very good. I can see where the chocolate ones might change but the shortbreads are reasonably caloried and stay fresh a long time (ok, I'd rather have thin mints too).
Don't know what I'll do next year when I have TWO GDs selling cookies!
I lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvve GS cookies....yummy!!! I'd give my right leg for a thin mint, a caramel delight errr whatever, oohhhh...don't forget the peanut butter patties. Geesh...as you can see...I"m an addict.....therefore....I just said NO to all GS cookie offers this year. I personally don't think I could get them and try to ration them out...they are just too much of a trigger for me....I've been known to easily eat a whole box in one sitting...uggggh. No cookies in this house this year. Good luck to those that have them and are trying to ration them.
hugs,
Olivia
I buy them and let the Girl Scouts keep them and resell them, or sometimes they donate them to a food bank. Either way, I support the Girl Scouts, but don't have to have the cookies in my house.
Now try being a Girl Guide Leader heh heh -- (Girl Guides = Canadian Girl Scouts)
In Canada they changed the recipe a couple years ago and I don't like it as much so at least i don't have to worry about it... but we always have cookies comming back in that the girls don't sell and we have to sell cookies ourselves. Its to tempting not to buy a box or two when you have a couple cases sitting in your house that have to be sold....
I've never tasted them. I bought some last time I was accosted at the supermarket, and dropped them straight into the Food Bank box. I'm not big on cookies, but I'd rag your arm off for a packet of Walker's cheese and onion crisps! Fortunately, they don't sell these in Canada, but I'll be in the UK in 6 weeks time....
