20 pounds a kid = one fat chick momma!
I've ALWAYS battled the bulge. When I was 13 and 5'5" I weighed 185 pounds. Once puberty finally slowed down, I grew a couple more inches, and I got active playing basketball and really putting forth an effort in PE classes, I managed to stay pretty steady at 5'7" and 140. A very healthy weight, but at 15 and 16 I thought that was FAT!!! Probably didn't help much that my mom was always yo-yo dieting herself....
Anyways, by the time I married I was around 160. Needed to drop some pounds, sure, but I was "ok" with my body image at the time of our marriage. But four kids later, I'm at my highest weight (pregnant or not!) weight of 234. I've been stuck at this weight for months now, despite attempts at Jazzercise (which got sabotaged by my husband, I might add) and completely eliminating fast food from my diet. Lack of exercise and portion control are DEFINETLY my roadblocks.
So I joined a gym with a daycare (so I can't use that as an excuse not to exercise!). I've been going everyday for the last week, just doing an hour on the treadmill. It isn't much, but it's better than what I was doing the week before. And I've paid close attention to my portion sizes this week, too. Last night we had sweet potatoes, and my dh tried to give me an entire potato! Those things were HUGE! Half of a potato was about the size of my fist, so I wrapped up the other half and stuck it in the fridge. (and I only used a half-tablespoon of Smart Balance spread...so it's not like I drenched it in butter!)
Here's where I get frustrated....after a week of reducing my food intake and increasing my excersize....I'm still at 234. When I was a teen, the weight would come off so easily, so this is seriously frustrating to me. I'm considering joining Jenny Craig because obviously my portion sizes are still NOT correct. And I'm not going to give up foods like sweet potatoes or pasta. I figure giving up fast food, sweets, and chips should be enough to see SOME weightloss.
Arrrrrrrggggghhhhh!!! Any ideas?
