Default Weight Fluctuates with the time of day?

Today I went back to the cardiologist to see the nurse practicioner. They wanted to take my BP and get some more blood to check my iron count.

I asked her to weigh me because I was curious to see whether or not I had lost since January 11th. Well, she weighed me and told me 276.. What the heck? I was 323 on Jan 11th.

After she left, another lady came in to take blood and I asked her to redo the weight. She came up with the same number?

Last time they weighed me it was in the evening (about 7pm) and today it was about 11am. My mom says that your weights gets more as you eat and everything and that you weigh less in the morning. Of course she was quick to note that it would not be a 30 pound difference though..

My question is.. how much does your weight fluctuate throughout the day on average? I'm wonderiing how much of this supposed weight loss is actual loss.

My weight flucuates from 2-4 pounds on a normal day and around TOM, it can flucuate 8-10 pounds. If you were retaining water on Jan. 11, some of it may have been water weight. But it sounds to me you've just had an awesome amount of weight loss!! Congratulations!!

I'm a compulsive weigher (when hubby doesn't hide the scales), so here's how it is for me. My weight used to increase by as much as 7 or 8 pounds throughout the day, but lately it's been only about 3.

It sounds as though you've been doing something right, and that's been reflected in your losing weight. Well done!

I've noticed that my weight fluctuates anywhere between 1 and 10 pounds in a normal day. Weird, huh? I'd say it's just weight loss! Way to go!!!

I once gained 4 pounds in the space of a couple of hours because I was eating salty beef jerky (and probably drinking water).

Lately I've noticed that I don't have as much water weight fluxuation during the day (I'm on Low Carb). And so my weight will only change maybe 2 to 4 pounds during the day. Some days if I eat very little, I will find that I am weighing less in the evening than I did in the morning and less than I do the next morning. Usually I've had a meal or some water between the two weigh ins though.

I can tell when I'm about to drop some weight that way though. If I get on the scale in the evening, and my scale isn't up much or is down from the morning weight it usually means I will see a new low the next day.

Why it fluxuates has to do with how much food or water you have consumed. However, you can weigh before going to bed at night, not eat or drink all night long, and wake up weighing less. Why? Because your body does its repairs while you sleep.

Looks like you've been working hard and it's paying off! Great job. I find that my weight fluctuates between 3-5 pounds in a day. Keep up the good work!

First off, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

And I also notice a difference between morning and evening - usually about 5 pounds - but depending on carbs and salt it can be more.

Heather that is awesome on the loss it sounds like you are in scale shock. You are doing great and I would take it for a 30 pound loss.

Mine is usually nothing to 2-3 pounds.

The dietician once told me weight can flucuate as much as 10lb on a given day. I think mine is 5-7lbs in a day, I check it one day to see.

I just got a call from the cardio's office.. my iron count did not improve, so they are upping my iron pills to 2 a day and harping about going to a gastroenterologist.

of course the Nurse practicioner said that my body has went though alot of changes due to weight loss and it just may need to settle.. but still they are not happy :-P

Hi Heather, Mine fluctuates during the day. Heck mine fluctuates every time I weigh, so I weigh several times and take an average ;-) (I think my floor in my bathroom is uneven.) It fluctuates from 2 - 7 pounds from the morning to night.

You also sweat out a lot of moisture at night- I forget the estimated amount, but it a lot when they showed it as water in a container.
