MsCrockett .... WELCOME !!!! Glad to see you found us.
There are several groups.... and each will welcome you with opened arms.
There also is a Low Carb group back on the main forum too.
I love low carb.... and "if I follow it" I have success.

But I think that is true with most plans....if you follow it .... you can have success, be it Low Carb, Weight Watchers, Richard Simmons, etc.
Looking forward to seeing you around the boards.

Hello again Ms Crockett! I started with South Beach which really helped me realize what a problem carbs are for me. I'm not on a specific diet other than aiming for more protein, fruits & veggies, but cutting out most bread & virtually all pasta, 'tatas, rice & cereal is really important to me, so I guess you could say I'm kinda low carb.... By "Carb diet" did you mean high carb or low carb?

MsCrockett - I'm on a low carb diet. It's not really any specific one, YET. I'm not going to "officially" start the South Beach Diet until I actually get the book, but I'm following it pretty well. I was on the Atkin's diet for a while, and lost 80 pounds, only to enter a major depression, and give up. This time, I'm determined to lose it all, and I know you will have success, too! I hope to see you around the forums!

Yes the carb diet I was on was the Atkins low carb diet. KAYLEY going on low carbs the second time,, does your body seem resistant to ketosis or has it just fell into the program?

I had no problems with it at all! In fact, I had about the same rate of loss my first week as Atkin's! I lost about 10 pounds in a matter of 4 days, and with a loss of 33 pounds since December 12th. South Beach gives you a bit more freedom. You are allowed certain fruits, and whole wheats (in small portions), and I think that it's the reason that I'll be able to stick to it longer than Atkin's.

Okay I feel I am on my way TO MAKING THE DECISION, by evaluating my faults on the Atkins diet,, 1.) I did not have an excercise plan 2.) no support group 3.) I was obsessed with the final 15 lbs of my goal weight, and looking back on pics.. I was fine. I just was still the "fat person" inside.
4.) I stayed on the induction, not following the steps for success.. I need to read the South Beach and from that make the decision on which way to go for life! Thank you soooooo much for your input, you have no idea how helpfull it has been, I am getting excited about dieting............

That's what we are here for!! I'm staying on phase one of the SBD for a few months for maximum weight loss, and I've checked the web, and they have said it's alright if you are really overweight like I am. When I get the book, I'll move on to phase two. I wish you the best of luck!

I can't speak to the whole low carb diet, but I will say that for me, successful weight loss has meant committing to something I can do the rest of my life. I didn't do low carb because that's not something I'm comfortable with long term.

I have radically changed what I eat. I count calories, but also try to find a good proportion of fats/carbs/protein. I watch fiber. I eat lots more fruits and veggies. I have decreased the "white" carbs and increased the "brown" carbs -- but have not made a full-blown conversion. Actually, I think I'm following the guidelines of whatever association that has studied nutrition and determined what is good for you. I CAN do this for the rest of my life. I love the food I eat and allow myself treats from time to time. I will not completely deprive myself. I don't care if tfhe weight loss is fast or not (though 60 pounds in 7 months is great!), and I feel GREAT with a lot more energy (I guess more fiber and less sugar will do that).

And let's not forget exercise!!

I guess my point is to think about what your ultimate goals are. My ultimate goal is my health and I have made a commitment to do what it takes to get there.

Felicia--

That is exactly what I think and why I'm doing low carb.

I'm not doing any particular plan but I'm just eating less refined carbs--like pasta, rice, bread, pizza, potatoes--less of that starchy stuff. Every night for dinner I eat some form of protein--beef, chicken, fish, pork with 2 vegetables. I usually stick to the same kinds of veggies--corn, carrots, green beans, spinach, asparagus, broccoli, butternut squash, zucchini and I buy the mixed veggie blend--the one with the carrots, peas, green beans, corn, and lima beans. Sometimes I "splurge" and I'll have potatoes. My boyfriend doesn't follow the diet as closely as I do, but he's slowly losing weight as well. He goes out to breakfast with the boys at work and he tells me he's good but I know he's eating the homefries . I also say that I eat salads and for snacks I'll munch on raw baby carrots, celery sticks, and I've bought the single serve bags of microwave popcorn.

Have you all found out that you have just naturally started eating smaller portions? Since I started eating this way I don't eat as much as I used to. I do not weigh or measure anything--I eat how much I want and I've kept losing weight and once in a while when I have a "cheat day" I've found out that I can eat half of what I used to be able to. For example, one day I had a patty melt with french fries and onion rings and I was only able to eat half the sandwich, half the fries, and I gave some of the onion rings away. Before that meal would have disappeared.

Anyway--welcome to the site MsCrockett. You'll find out that the people here are wonderfully supportive. We've all either been there or are there so we can relate. See you later.

Wow! 20 weeks of recipes? I have some of the low carb cook books but I end up eating the same foods a lot of the time. Do you have any of the recipes on your computer where you could send me a copy? I am so bad with actual menu planning as far as for a whole week goes so I envy you. I've noticed that eating low carb saves us some money too. Like I'll buy the London broil steaks and I can feed 3 people from one of them.

You know I just realized that I haven't had a good stir fry in a while. I'm going to have to get the vegetables and the teriyaki sauce to make one.

Anyway--if you have any recipes you can share that would be awesome. We eat the same stuff a lot which is why I end up going off the diet and eating pasta sometimes--or--even worse--ordering Chinese food.

Hi MrsCrockett,

You have definitely found the right place for friendship and support, and to get your questions answered. I haven't tried a low carb diet, I use WW which always works well for me. My problem is I get bored with it and give up after about 30 lbs lost. This time I am going to fly way past that 30 lbs, I am determined!!

Good luck with going on low carb again, I hope it works for you,

Hugs,

Ammi
