Default A little help, please...

I got uninspired. I haven't been to the gym in weeks and I'm watching what I eat, but that's not helping me get anywhere. I have about 30lbs more to lose and I'm in a rut. Does anyone have any words of advice or some motivation to help me get back in gear? I really am committed to losing the rest of the weight, I just need some help...

First off, you are AWESOME for losing the weight that you have.

Maybe after all that, your body just needed a bit of a break. Start back slow to get into the groove again, but don't think of what you have to lose, but how well you've done.

You should be very proud of losing that much weight! Maybe a good motivator would be to find pictures of yourself at your heaviest and tape them around your place-- fridge door, bathroom mirror, etc. That will be constant reinforcement that you have the power to change, and you can change more if you want to.

I have the opposite problem...I work out everyday but have trouble with the food choices. The best advice I can give as far as getting to the gym and working out is don't wait for motivation--just do it. Say you'll go just for 10 minutes and usually by the end of that time it's easier just to complete your workout than leave.

Good luck and I know you'll reach your goals soon.

Talking Just Do It!

Total agree with Liz, you can't count on motivation and inspiration to get through all of weightless. Just stick it out for a few more weeks, and you'll feel better again. JUST DO IT!

Thank you all so much!

I was going to post a message saying okay I'm going to plan to go tomorrow to the gym, but that never works out. So, I just went! I did the elliptical for 30min and then did strength training on my arms and abs for 20min. I felt great when I left the gym, I'm going to make myself get back into the swing of things so I can lose the rest of this weight.

It is great that you went to the gym today and now you feel great! Keep it up and another thing you can do to get you motivated to to buy a really cute outfit in a size you want to be and hang it on the back of your bedroom door. That way it keeps you motivated to keep on going. I work in a department store so everyday I see all of the outfits I want to wear this summer. Keep going, you have done great so far!

Maybe you've reached a weight loss plateau. You could always conquer that with interval training. You start off with a warm up for 3 minutes, then start a normal paced cardio for 5 minutes, and then do a higher intensity for one minute, then back to the normal paced cardio for another 5 minutes, and so on until you've done this for an hour. I've been reading everywhere nowadays how this burns more fat and calories than exercising at one intensity the entire time.

mom2cole, that's a great idea! I may have to do that...I want to be a size 8, but I don't think I'm ready to buy that small of a size yet...Maybe I'll buy a 10 and start there (I'm a 14 now). Thanks for the idea!

Melanie, I don't think I've quite hit a plateau yet. I took a break from exercise for about a month, so I think I'm going to drop weight when adding exercise back in. I weighed myself this morning and I'm already down from 180, so hopefully that's a good sign.

I've read somewhere that when you stop exercising (like in your case, for a month) your metabolism starts to slow down and you can even put pounds back on even if you're eating right. Maybe that's it. I think you'll definitely start dropping weight when you add exercise back in! Good luck!
