  • I started WW on Monday.

I am allowed 24 points. Here is what I have been doing:

1)Eating my full points allowance every day.

2)Eating sensibly and using my points on proper food, not crisps, wine, chocolate or anything.

3)Am eating lots of fruit and veg and healthy low point snacks

    4)Drinking lots of water

But I am totally starving. Its just not enough food for me. I havent done WW for ages, and had forgotten about how I feel permanently hungry on it.

I am going to bed so hungry that I cant get to sleep.

I'm doing all the things they recommend to eat properly and feel full but its not working.

    I cant stand being hungry.

Any advice? Or what other diet can I do? I think I've done them all...

I'm seriously thinking about trying this Paul Mckenna thing =- part of me believes it will work, but a big part believes it wont.

If I have to be this hungry every day I am going to end up bingeing..
    any help much appreciated
Anyone actually working the Mckenna system??

    Thanks
  • I'd add a few more points and see if I could still lose on a higher amount.
  • You probably have a great point there, thanks Veggie. I suspect that even on 24 points a day its only about 1200 cals if I could be bothered to add them up.

May try that or may just go on a mega binge as I feel so sorry for myself!!
  • Just poking my head in here, but you might try looking down in the WW section for tips on volume foods that are still low in points. It is possible to eat a lot for 24 points, but it does take planning.
  • one idea to fill you up
    Hi,
As they say, I feel your pain. You might try the zero point soup. Thats what i did and it was a big help. When you need it ,it tastes pretty good.
    Good luck.
On the positive, you must not need to lose too much if you only get 24 points so that is good.

  • A couple of things, eat your veggies, and lots of 'em. That should fill you up a bit. And make sure you are eating plenty of protein, and your grainy foods are as whole grain as possible. I am sorry you are hungry all the time. I can't do weight watchers, I did it when I was 15, and I hated it.

And with the McKenna thing, belief is the key. Any of those programmes will only work if you believe in them, and are willing to give it a try. A lot of it is very scientifically based and sensible. I don't have the sort of issues that he deals with anymore, so I haven't done it.
  • So Kykaree, what are you doing now? You have done so well, how are you eating? Following a particular diet?

I think the WW is going to get kicked into touch very soon!
  • I have done a cross between Rosemary Conley and Paul McKenna and I'd recommend both (although Paul doesn't believe in diets - but I have PCOS so had to address it to some extent). You can see from my ticker the weight I started at in July. And at that weight I was on around 1600 cal a day with Rosemary, so I suspect if you're on 1200 (which is close to a starvation diet), you could up it and still lose weight.

Even with PCOS which makes it upto 4 times harder than a *normal* woman to lose weight, I've lost steadily with RC and most of that at 1600 or 1500 a day. You can always up your cals and up your exercise to semi-cover it, too. That might work.

I've never been hungry with Rosemary's diets, either - I have several of her old books (some from charity shops so it's hardly been expensive) and one week I might do one of her diets from the late 80s, the next week I'll do one from the 90s, the following week I'll switch to her latest, the GI Jeans diet. This last one could work for you as it's more cals than you have now - plus it uses some of the principles of GI which keeps you fuller, longer.

I've also used a load of her recipes from *Eat Yourself Slim* which are fantastic. But only any good to you if you have time to cook, I know! I also find starting the day with porridge helps me - I really don't feel hungry til lunchtime.

Oh and my tip for coping with your hungry time - do check out Paul McKenna because he will help you figure out whether it is emotional eating, or comes from some other cause and once you know what's going on in your mind, you can turn it round.

At the start of this diet I said one thing to myself - I would never go to bed hungry.

All the research suggests that calories (and carbs) can't tell the time - you can eat any time you like, so long as you stick within your calorie allowance - so eat your biggest meal in the evening and save your pudding til before you go to bed.
  • I found that drinking lots of liquid helps fill you up. I also eat small meals all though the day, that way I don't feel very full but never really hungry.

Lately I found that my body is adjusting to the amount of food I eat. I can't eat as much as before even if I wanted to.
  • Artemis, I lost 32lbs following W.W. and was STARVING for 3 mths in the end I went back to my old habits and put the weight back on try adding a few more pts I did and still lost I tended to stick with it monday to thursday then let loose on friday, saturday and sunday but it still worked failing that get some duct tape and
  • There is NOTHING worse than feeling hungry all the time!

Try having a search round the Internet for information on Low GI or Glycemic Index (sometimes spelled Glycaemic Index). It works on the principle that there are foods which are more long-term satisfying than others. The principle fits in with any kind of diet - for instance I use it in conjunction with counting calories - it just means that my food choices help me use those calories in a way that keeps me feeling fuller for longer.
  • Hello! I recently started WW too! We have the same program as you in the UK (the only ones who would understand MY points system! LOL) and I'm allowed 22 points, but I generally have been between 22 - 26 to be honest... AND I lost 1.7KG the first week.

I try to eat as MUCH protein as possible, and found drinking green OR herbal tea in between, if I get hungry, really helps. Oh and maybe it's all in my head, but sometimes I chew some sugar-free gum as well and it "tricks" my stomach into stopping it's rumbling!

Nothing worse than feeling hungry. Not sure what you are eating for points, but if it's quite a few carbs, it could be solved with a bit of protein alone
  • I follow my own plan. Basically its like the ancient weight watchers exchange plan where you eat at least three servings of veggis a day, two fruits, three grains and two proteins. Very loosely.

I keep to low GI foods when I can, as that really helps with cravings.

And I exercise! Half an hour at lunch 5 days a week, and an hour in the evenings 5 days a week, and swimming twice a week.

I have a very sedentary job, so I find I need to move a lot more that I probably would if I could move during the day!!!
  • Thanks everyone, your replies have achieved 2 things for me:

1)cheered me up (thank you all)

2)given me a lot to think about.

I will try to stick with WW a little while longer, increasing my points and focusing on the low GI foods.

    Thanks everyone!
  • Whatever you do, please don't give up. you will thank yourself later for it. Let us help you Maybe you could give us an indication of what a typical day is for you?

I just wanted to also say I DID acheive my goal with Weight Watchers a few years ago. I only gained the weight back recently due to circumstances. WW is a great program, it just takes some time to figure out what is best for YOU.
