Default Can someone look at my first day so far and let me know if it's okay?

I'd appreciate input if I'm doing this correctly:

Breakfast:
1 cup Kashi Go Lean
1 cup non fat skim milk

64 oz water
32 oz club soda with 2 lemon slices

Lunch:
1 can green beans, drained with 1 tsp olive oil, salt, pepper and garlic powder
1 6 oz can pink salmon

Thanks

I checked the kashi Go lean and it looks fine with 6g of sugar. The Crunch has more than twice as much so I'd say stay away from that during Wave 1.

The salmon and beans are an okay choice but with most things.. fresh is a better choice. Get yourself some fresh salmon, season and bake it. Get some fresh green beans and blanch then. Canned foods also can have a lot of added sodium and none of us really needs as much as they give us.

In the long run you are going to find food much tastier and it will be easier to stick to in the long run if you concentrate on fresh cooking. And yes this is IMHO

Default Canned veggies vs. fresh

I think you are right in general about canned veggies. However, I disagree with those who think veggies have to be strictly fresh...frozen are often frozen right out of the field and might be "fresher" than veggies that have come across the country in a truck and sat in the grocery case for a few days to boot. Plus, I can't shop often enough to keep fresh veggies in the house all the time, so frozen are lifesavers.

I will choose frozen over canned then if I have to. This week is just tight shopping wise and hopefully on payday can/will stock up on the fresher things.

Canned veggies are ok once in awhile but they are not nutritious enough to eat all the time. When you cook veggies to the point that they mush under a fork they are over cooked and lost all good benefits to the body.
And every canned veggie I know of is mushy; so it is safe to say use them sparingly.

Oh Linda! you are always bursting my bubble! You know how I feel about the Kashi crunch.. No wonder it tastes soo good! I suppose I can check out the regular Kashi Go Lean. *sigh*

Yep, since I'm on a tight budget, I try to buy frozen for veggies I'm going to cook...such as zucchini and yellow squash, peas, corn (for wave 2), broccoli, etc. If I'm going to eat it cut fresh on a sandwhich or salad, then I buy it fresh (peppers, mushrooms, cucumber, etc.) And I would love to buy the red and yellow peppers but right now I've been sticking to just green because of the price. I know fresh is going to be the best for everything, but since I can't afford it, going frozen for those things are best for me.

Aww I'm sorry. just be aware of this during Wave 1. This might very well be okay during Wave 2, but during Wave 1 sugars should be as little as possible.

Frozen veggies can be a good choice.. I always keep them on hand. Fresh doesn't always mean more expensive though. Shop the ads. Every week there are fresh veggies on sale. maybe start planning a veggie dish based upon what is on sale that week. Would be a good way to try something new, that you may very well end up liking AND have it not cost too much.
