Sorry but I don't exactly know where to post this. How many carbs should someone be eating daily while trying to lose weight? I've lost about 15lbs so far (since Christmas) but I know I'm eating a lot of carbs? What should I try to stay under?
The simple answer is that it doesn't matter as long as you are using more calories than you are eating. It could be all chocolate even ... HOWEVER ... you need nutrition too.
From what I've read 40 or 50 percent of your calories can be good complex carbs like oatmeal, fruit and vegetables. That'll give you a nice balanced diet.
I try to follow the zone plan and they say to have about 40% of your calories from carbs. This is NOT a low carb plan though. They encourage you to have good carbs that are low gyclymic.
I actually eat around 50%-55% of my daily calories in carbohydrates. That's in line with the USDA recommendation. I do try to eat as many complex carbohydrates as possible, but I don't stress about having some white flour, rice, potatoes, etc. in my daily diet.
I'm not following any specific plan. Just no junk, no pop, and just generally not eating anything that isn't healthy for me. It seems that I take in more carbs than alot here and I was afraid it was going to catch up with me and slow my weight loss.
I agreed with above--try to stick to the good carbs (i.e. less refined stuff, sticking more to whole-grains) and keeping a calorie deficit (expending more than you take in), you should be fine. However, be aware that as your body shrinks--it will also need less overall calories unless your ramp up your expenditure & metabolism further with exercise.
