Default Power Of Positive Thinking...

Here is an interesting thing I read in a magazine -- it said that they took 2 groups of dieters, same diet (WW type exchange diet) and one group, spent three minutes twice a day to do positive affirmations about the experience of dieting.

I forget the percentages (read this at the market while in line) but the affirmations crowd had by far the most success and the most success at maintenence a year later.

They said you don't even have to BELIEVE what you are saying -- only WISH for it to be true for instance you can say "THIS EATING PLAN IS EFFORTLESS FOR ME -- IT IS A PLEASURE, NOT A CHORE. I LOVE THIS WAY OF EATING AND I CRAVE FOODS THAT ARE GOOD FOR ME AND EAT THEM IN THE PERFECT AMOUNT."

Something to that effect -- you set a timer and just write that or say that for 3 minutes.

Basically the theory is that dieters are mostly repeat dieters ie, have "failed" in the past and they rerun or project those failures onto the new attempt.

Or something.

Hey....I'm gonna try it, I figure, can't hurt! If you figure your brain is your hard drive, can't hurt to debug it a couple of times a day!

I'll try it with you! Here's another thing I saw, that watching TV, you are getting like a gazillion eat-eat food-food drink-drink messages, so the best thing is to get in the habit of muting the commercials, even if you don't like the stuff they are hawking...

Like, I don't like Burger King commercials but maybe watching one and getting that "you want to eat" programming....I would just transfer it to something that I like.

So I thought maybe if I was watching TV I would pick the commercial time to do the affimations, you can even write them if people are around who would look at you funny, LOL. So I'll be replacing the bad consume-consume programming with the good "I'm OK, I'm fine, I don't need more" programming.

That's a great idea. COmmercials make me want the food definately. Luckily, I pretty much never watch "live" tv. We TIVO everything and watch it at our convenience (because it seems when it is live it's never convenient!), and always fast-forward thru commercials Once you get a TIVO or DVR you wonder how you ever lived without it! LOL!
