Default Running in Place

Is this a good workout? I used to go running everyday and I lost a lot of weight and fast, plus my legs were getting into great shape, but its a tad cold out right now to go running outside, and I cant afford a treadmill. So is this the next best thing? Will I still achieve my goal if I run inplace while watching tv about 30 minutes or so everday?

As long as you are getting your heartrate up enough, I don't see why not.

A lot of ladies love the Walk Away The Pounds videos, and they can be done in front of the tv.

Good luck!

I have read on a fitness board of long ago that by running or marching in place, you do not get the same benefit as you would actually running or walking forward. I don't recall the specifics, but it has to do with causing an imbalance in the muscles that propel you forward, and also in the hip flexors.

Hi Sweet ... Is there any particular reason you can't go running or brisk walking outside? I just came back from an run and it's -10C/14F and it was AWESOME ... When I run outside in the winter, I personally feel, that I get a better more refreshing, envigorating workout... And surprisingly you don't have to dress that warmly because you will get quite hot while running...Have you ever tried it? Try it you may just like it more than you think ... Let us know of the results if you do try it ...

I wouldn't be as concerned about the temperature outside as the danger of slipping on ice. I'm with you, Ilene, it would be far more entertaining and invigorating to walk outside!

I ran in place a couple weeks ago for 45 mins because it was snowing, I got a pretty good work out but my shins didnt appreciate it. I am with you, not being able to afford a treadmill just now, so I know how you feel- especially when the weather is so yucky outside.
