It's a new year! Join us for exercise in January! In this forum, we're setting the number of MINUTES we want to exercise for the month -- whether it's walking or swimming or housework!
We will also be keeping a running total of the group's minutes! In December, the 300+ group did over 90 hours of exercise!!!
Looks like I'll meet my December goal of 600 minutes of cardio. In January, I may add more strength training and decided to set a total goal of 720 minutes, for all cardio AND strength/weight training.
Wyllen, I fell off the exercise waggon due to illness and feeling down, you are so GOOD . I will do 30min every weekday in January except for 3-4 days when TOM comes = 570 mins.
I would like to join for January! Exercise is tough for me, but I know that the more I do, the easier it will become. I will start with a goal of 350 minutes for January. Two days ago I tried doing a tape and could only get through 10 minutes, but then yesterday I made it all the way through a different tape, which was over 30 minutes. Hopefully I will be able to do even more than I have planned for January, but it is best to start off slowly.
I am glad to see this thread! The December exercise thread helped keep me motivated all month long! My goal for Dec was 500 mins. I am going to add my Y!F workouts to it as well as my recumbent bike and treadmill exercises and bump my goal for Jan up to 600 mins. We can all do this!!! Let's make 2006 our year!
Sharon -- I think you just gotta keep coming back -- 570 sounds good!
Nancy -- I personally find the exercise so much harder to keep up with than eating well, which is why I started setting goals for myself. Like you, I think I would rather set a goal that I think is low to start and go from there. I hate to disappoint myself!
Manda -- You've been so good this month! I know you can make that bigger goal!
Ok, I'm in. My plan is 3x/week of strength training and 4x/week of cardio (50 minutes each). That adds up to around 1400 minutes or so.
Although for the most part, I like working out, there are days it's hard to get to the gym. Knowing that I am accountable here helps me on those days -- thanks y'all .
Well, I haven't posted here before, but I've been in the "Ready to start again" section...I'm just starting the exercise part of the program, so I'm going to start small...with 200 minutes. That should be doable, since I'm in college, and then I work (only part time though). So maybe I can do more than 200 minutes (hopefully), but I'm going to make that my goal, and see how it goes!
Well, I fizzled out in December and didn't make my goal, but January is a new month and the start of the new year. I'm setting my goal at 600 minutes. That's about 45 minutes 4 times a week. I hope I can do more, but that is my target goal. Most of it will be done in the water, but some may be walking or some other cardio type exercise.
My doctor recommended that first and foremost I need to create the exercise habit. I need to get on my treadmill every day, even if only for 5 minutes. I am committing to 10 minutes a day, for 31 days in January -- 310 minutes in January.

elmay -- you're rocking! Setting that goal a little higher this month. I'm with you, having some accountability on the days I just don't want to exercise (and there are many of them!!) is key.
kayley -- welcome! starting small is fine! As I said before, I like to set myself NOT to fail, especially when starting something like this. What are you going to count as exercise?
barb -- hey is that a new avatar? I like it! And the cat too! You're right, it's a new year. Do you think you know what caused you to fizzle out this month?
Kathy -- welcome!! making a commitment to exercise has been much harder than the food for me, and this accountability has helped! Sounds like a good goal, but you might want to either give yourself a day or four off in the month (just in case you get sick or life interferes) or set up even fewer minutes total (so that you could make it up on other days). If you don't do it one day, then I think you might be more likely to just throw in the towel and stop, figuring you can't make it. Just an opinion, though!
Well, I have 46 minutes to go in December and plan to get to the gym this morning!
Okay--since my resolution is to actually get my butt BACK to the gym at least 5 days a week, I'm setting my goal at 1200 minutes for the month of January. That's because when I do actually go to the gym, I do 30-45 minutes of cardio PLUS I also do my weight training. I'm usually at the gym for approximately 1+half to 2 hours so I'm figuring that this is doable. This thread will keep me accountable and I'll post every day what I do for a work out.

I changed my goal to 10 minutes a day, 310 total. If I do more great. If I need to make it up later, it will be easier to do. Thank you for the advice.
As for my exercise, I'm going to count doing the treadmill of course, but also my job...Only the time where I am doing the strenuous work...that accounts for about 2 hours a day, really. (I work in a nursing home). I'll have to time myself, even though it'll be hard...but I am constantly lifting people up, and bending over, and changing them (which is a struggle). I definately work up a sweat! Plus, I walk ALL day...but I won't count that. I only work on the weekends because of college, but that'll help for some of my time. I'll also count my "Floor work", which is basically situps/crunches, jumping jacks/jumping rope, and pushups. I try to do those when I wake up and before I go to bed. Only about 5 minutes each time. Well, I'm going to hit the hay now! HAPPY 2006 all!
Hey chickies!
I'm in for the long haul this time!! I fizzled out last month too. December was just too busy and I was sick a lot. At the end, I was so far behind that I just didn't post my time....
ok so for a goal.
150 min per week so I will go with 600 minutes for January. I am going to try to beat that by 120 minutes but we we see!!
I am also going to start the count off as I succeeded in 30 minutes today and might get some more in before bed.
SO...
300+ january exer goal = 30 minutes
Personal january goal = 600 - 30 = 570 minutes to go!!
