Question Question about Missed periods

I can't be pregnant, so I know thats not the problem.

Last month my period was about 3 days late and was short.
This month it is so far 10 days late.

Can being overweight eventually cause problems with this? I was going too wait and see if it comes back next month and if not see the doctor then. I have had weight problems for 6 years now, starting with my pregnancy. I'm 5feet tall and weigh 230 pounds and I need help!!

According to my doctor weight in some people can be an issue with irregular cycles. I notice with my own body, that as long as I am not working out, eating well & losing weight, I have 2-4 periods per year, but the minute I start working out, eating better and losing weight, I have a period for 5-7 days (sorry if that was tmi )

My period had always been regular but last year is when I gained 80 pounds and since then it has been so erratic. Sometimes I get it every other month. Sometimes I have it for two days, other times for 5 or more days. Sometimes it's light, sometimes it's heavy. My doctor told me that it is probably my weight which I tend to agree with because it wasn't until I gained so much weight so quickly that this happened.

When I was 267 lbs, I had an extremely erratic cycle, I could go months without a period. And then they might last 8 - 10 days (yikes) I went and had tests, and the doctor just sighed as everything came back normal, and said it must just be normal for me.

Fast forward and I am now 205, when I first started losing they started becoming more regular, and now I am regular as clockwork and due for Christmas (grrrrrrrrrrrr), and they last 2-3 days and are nice and predictable. My period pains are still really bad, and my pms is more evil than ever!!!!

Well, I dont have a cycle. Some months I go 12 weeks without a period, sometimes 6 weeks. Usually they last 8 - 12 days, quite heavy and painful. I'm hoping that with losing weight and being healthier, that things will become more normal.

Have you started excercising more?? I know when I jumped my excercise level up (at 250 lbs) my period was absent for a couple of months. Now it just jumps around and appears when it feels like LOL

I have had irregular periods since I gained weight. And to be honest, I'm still having irregular periods since I've started to lose. Like some other girls on here, I could go for months without a period. I think on some level weight does have something to do with it.

Just my 2 cents....I had a problem with my periods and it turned out to be a thyroid problem. Which definately also affects your weight.

Same here. I usually don't get my period regularly... My boyfriend always thinks I'm pregnant... its kind of funny... But yeah when I do get there, they hurt like ****.

Weight gain and irregular periods are symptoms of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrom. My GYN say you should never go more than 6 weeks without a period to prevent cancer.

I have always heard that both being overweight and doing a lot or starting a new exercise program, can completely throw off your cycle.

I have always been overweight ever since I can remember and there is no such thing as a cycle for me. I could go about 2-3 months without a period, and then have like 2 in 5-6 weeks. It was horrible, I just hated the inconsistancy. I finally switched to birth control just so I could have some stability with my period.

What I'm eating also seems to affect me as well as my actual weight. I was very erratic at my heaviest, then got a lot more regular. However, I was due over Christmas which coincided with lots more eating and drinking and lots less exercise than normal. No sign of it at all. Good because it meant I avoided it on holiday, but I'm not a fan of the uncertainty about when it will be.

Still, it doesn't bother me overly because I know that there's absolutely no possibility, short of immaculate conception, that I could be pregnant, and I'm sure it will turn up eventually.
