Default Help - Off topic...gift ideas

Hello ladies! I need your help. I am in charge of the community involvement program at work & we decided to sponser a family for the holiday season. I spoke with the mother of the family yesterday & asked her what items her children would like. Her response was ....whatever a 13 yr old girl would like....whatever a 13 yr old boy would like....aagh. It was like pulling teeth. So I know there are some mom's/aunts/ etc on here...help me with some suggestions please!! I want these kids to have a great holiday! Here's what I'm working with:
13 year old twins (1 boy/ 1 girl)
10 yr old boy
17 yr old girl who is pregnant/due any time now.
I was thinking hats/gloves...pajama sets of course, but kids want something else besides clothes. Any ideas would be VERY helpful!!
Thanks!

13 years old. What a rough age to buy for? Especially if you have no insight to their interests.

Little handheld games (like Connect Four, etc), a magnetics set, videos (but you probably don't know if they have a vcr or dvd), make-up for the girl, sports-stuff for the boy (like football, basketball, etc.), board games, hair stuff for the girl.

I just got through going through this with an 11 year old. His mom told me that he really doesn't play with toys anymore. He wanted clothes or cologne (yuck!). It's rough when they grow up, but really aren't grown up.

Good luck!

hello

gift certificates are great, to best buy, target, kohl's, walmart, blockbuster
or something like a DVD player, game console (xbox, game cube) subscription to magazines...mostly these are sort of more fun, also consider basics like underwear, socks, and shoes please...we did a drive here and although most of the kids love the items mentioned first, the parents really appreciate the latter items....

We enjoy doing this for Christmas as well.

I have a 13 yr old nephew, and he likes hoodies (sweatshirts w/ a hood), cd players (either portable or boom box type), cd's (maybe a gift card to local music store), baggy jeans...like skater jeans or carpenter jeans, funny t-shirts like screen shirts that have funny sayings (we bought this one a year a go and he still wears it....it's a dog sniffing another dog's butt and it says "do I know you" it was pretty gross to me but all the boys loved it.

My neice is 12 yr old and teenage girls are a bit easier, anything frilly for their room, I bought her a pink lamp w/ feather or fur around the shade, she loves make up, any kind of clothes from Limited Too, purses (those sparkle purses), oh and she loves those fake fur scarf wraps w/ the gloves to match, a pink cd player. I don't know if you have one of these stores where you're at but we have this wonderful store called "jewelry and handbag" Purses are so cheap and they have any kind of jewelry for anywhere from $1-10, those charm bracelets they like are only $1-2, great stocking stuffers!!!

Younger kids love toys, handheld games, board games. I gave my neice a deck of old maid cards and you'd thought it was the best thing in the world (she's 7).

Pajamas are always a good gift, the ones that are flannel bottoms (like lounge pants)w/ all the crazy designs and then a top to match. And if you can get houseshoes/slippers to match too.

They are gonna love anything you get!!!!
I hope this helped, Merry Christmas

If the 17 year old is planning on keeping the baby then she will probably need all kinds of stuff. Diapers, a basic book on child care, baby clothes.

My son loves board games. They are something the family could play together if they wanted to. A deck of cards and a Hoyle book of how to play card games.

Yes the 17 yr is keeping the baby, but I have 3 moms that work for me & they have a Costco membership....they already purchased a huge box of diapers & are looking for other items. I do like the book idea...thanks Barb!

Good Luck! Can't go wrong with gift certificates from books, electronic stores...Target, Wal-mart etc.... My kids are all grown, but they loved getting money to buy what they liked. LOL

Toysrus.com has toys and games categorized by age - why not try looking there? The girls would probably also like jewelry and clothes more than toys and games, and the older one at least would probably like perfume, makeup, etc. Also, some baby things might be nice, too, although I'd get her some things for herself as well.
