We are a group of individuals who weigh or have weighed 300+, or near there. This group was formed to provide a place for others like us to find support and hope. We are aware of the distinct problems that come with weighing over 300 lbs.

We want to invite everyone to join us in our journey.
    We share laughter and tears.
We share what works for us and what doesn't.
We often use a "Topic of the Day" for discussion.

These are not required topics ...just ideas to share. We often find them very helpful. We also share heartaches and fears ... joys and celebrations.

We have several extra threads going on simutaneously such as Monthly Challenges, Weekly Weigh-ins, Recipes, Bios, and more. Please feel free to check them all out.

We have found this thread to be more than just a support group...
we have found it to become a home. We invite you to join us.

    WELCOME!

I know you'll all agree that we are really thankful for the free services here at 3FC. The sisters offer all of this support and information with no charges to us. There are a couple of ways though that we can help out.

If you are thinking about buying anything at Amazon, why not help out 3FC at the same time? You can do this by clicking on the button for Amazon on any page in the forum, or by clicking on the button on the main 3FC page at www.3fatchicks.com . A portion of your purchase price will be given to 3FC by Amazon. It doesn't increase your price at all, but it does help out 3FC. You can use any of the Amazon.com links that you see on the site in order to help contribute to the site.

Also, BTW, in case you didn't know it, you can view the message boards "ad free" for a minimal charge. I think it's like $15 for 6 months. A very small investment to be rid of the annoying ads and make your pages load quicker.

There have been some concerns expressed by the powers that be about copyright infringement. So please, if you are directly quoting someone else or printing an article in whole or in part, please give credit where credit is due!!!!
  • Good Morning All,

Ahh it's so lovely, the kids have gone back to school today I can get back into my routine and have some peace again

I decided to weigh last night, yes it's early, but I wanted to weigh before my couple of days off this week so that if I get on the scales in two weeks time and I haven't lost, or I have gained because of my treats, then I will know that I had lost weight beforehand anyway. So I lost 1.5 lbs. Still not the 1 lb a week I had hoped for, but as I didn't do any housework/exercise at all last week I mustn't mumble too much. I am not going to change my ticker because I want to wait to get my official weigh in result in a couple of weeks time.

Dogpal - happy belated birthday to your hubby. It's wonderful that you have been together as long as you have. I wish I had met Daren when I was that age because I am sure I would still be married to him now, even if he is a game addict

I see I am not the only one to suffer a gamer in the family though, and I must say that hunting game sounds fun. I think I would be like you getting killed all the time

I spend a lot of time on here, emailing, catching up on messages here, chatting online etc, so when I am doing that it's fine that he plays his games. Plus if he can control himself and keep quiet I don't mind if he plays if I have a sleep in the day. I just get annoyed when it's mega late in the night, or when a meal is on the table going cold because he 'has to find a save point' or he's just 'helping somebody out'. Grrrr

Brenda - congrats on the 2 lbs lost. That is brilliant. You mightn't be happy with it, but it's better than me, I only lost 1.5 lbs in two weeks. You are doing great, you should be proud of that loss

Ah I think we should make a gamer widow club, like golf widows but our hubby's are gamers instead of golfers The night Daren was getting so irate at his character he was playing Metal Gear Solid 3 - Snake Eater. But his fave game and the one he plays the most is Everquest 2 online, which is a PC game, or Everquest Frontiers which is an online PS2 game. To play the latter he actually got an American PS2, a power voltage converter and of course the game. Has your hubby heard of Everquest, or played it?

Andrea - want to join the gamer widow's club I see I am not the only one whose hubby has more than one games console. Mine has a PS2, both UK and US versions, a PC, and the Gameboy Advance. He did hint at wanting an X-box, but we already fork out way too much money on all the other games, so I put my foot down and said no way

Glad you got to have a nice walk, it sounds like you live in such a beautiful area. It's actually dry here today so I have done some washing which I better go put out soon before it does decide to rain

Julee - sounds like although it was a tough weekend food wise, you still managed to make some good choices. The words lifestyle change are echoing through my head, well done!!

Have you decided yet what you are going to wear to the Halloween party? I hope you have a great time and that you don't get the urge to constantly nibble on Halloween candy

Wyllen - when you are right you're right, and you are right when you say this is for life, and in this life there is great Indian food Sounds to me like you di marvellously well to not have a total pig out. So you had an extra dessert, so what, you deserved it after not having a huge pig out on the main meal. I am glad you saw it as a positive rather than a negative thing and I am sure that in itself will help you get back on track tomorrow/today.

I am not sure, but if you go to Dotti's Weight Loss Zone I think she has a whole section there where it gives you the cals etc of a load of different kinds of fast food meals, like Indian, Chinese, Pizza etc. If you haven't been on her site before, just put DWLZ or the full name in your search engine and you should get to her home page.

Sharon - glad to see you back and I am sure to chat with you later today. I am glad you got some walking in and ate healthily while you were away. I don't think the scales will be mean to you when you next weigh in.

That's so great that hubby wants to buy you a horse. Wait til you get to NZ, then you will have lost weight and what a fabulous place you will live in to ride a horse!!

Be good when you eventually open those Halloween goodies. Do you think you will have many kids knocking your door. We might, but we don't answer it, Talk to you later.

Ok I better dash and get this washing out of mine. Take care all, happy Weigh ins for those that weigh today and I will be back later,

    Hugs,

    Ammi
  • Good Morning everyone, good luck for the week ahead!
  • Hi Everyone!

I finally made it back! I got married last Tuesday. We had a very small wedding at my MIL's house. It was really beautiful, especially considering we threw it together in only 4 days! The ceremony went very well. There was one little problem, though. We spent about an hour and a half the morning of the wedding putting together our vows. I kept changing them (trying to get them to be just perfect, you know), until I edited out most of the part about the rings. Somehow I overlooked that it was partially missing when proofreading, so the minister had to wing it. I don't think many people other than the three of us noticed, but it was pretty funny. Another part that was pretty memorable is when my youngest daughter yelled out, "Hey Mama!" just as I walked down the aisle and reached the front of the room. Oh well, we are very untraditional, but I'm so happy to be married! We had lots of help and input from our families, and Manda (fellow poster and my SIL) made a beautiful cake for us.

Even after being totally off plan with no exercising for a week, I have managed to lose a little weight, a total of 4 pounds since my last official weigh-in 2 weeks ago! I'm back on track this morning, though, so hopefully I will see more results next week.

I've really enjoyed reading everyone's posts and catching up. I'll be more active now that I'm back. Congratulations to all the losers!
  • Well, someone asked for juicy details, so here goes. Once we got engaged, the chaparone basically disappeared. I'm 43 1/2 years old, and we figured that every month might be my last fertile month, soooo. Now I'm late. I'm usually regular to the minute, and could, I guess blame it on the trip, but I've made an appointment with the doctor. He's going to kill me if I am. Austin had to sit down real quick when I called him. I guess the old fossil's guys can still swim. I won't actually believe it until I see the dead rabbit. I will keep you posted. Boy, that will throw a kink into my diet.
  • Ammi -- 1.5 pounds!!! Congrats!!!!! We should celebrate all of those losses! I know it's not what you had been wanting, but I am happy for you! Use it as a motivator to get back on exercise when you are able, to maybe lose more!

Thanks for the DWLZ info, I will take a look. I actually found a lot of the things I ate online and just guessed at some amounts.

Amy -- Congratulations! Sounds like you had a lovely day, and I'm sure it feels great to be married!

Catherine -- *fingers crossed* I think if you have a kink in your weight loss that this is not a bad one to have! Keep us posted.

Okay, I'm off to pt and to a day of no candy eating! Right? Right.
  • Hi All,

Well what can I say except RATS The rain didn't hold off long enough for me to get all my washing dry, so it's back to the old clothes horse in the kitchen for most of it. I am glad I did get some stuff dry though, so I shouldn't grumble too much.

Catherine - WOW, losing your chaperone when you got engaged sure did set the ball rolling if you are indeed pregnant. Like Wyllen said though, it maybe a kink in your diet, but what a brilliant one to have. Keep us posted please.

Amy - so happy to hear that your wedding went fairly smoothly and that it was a beautiful day for you. Don't forget we all want to see photos please How cool that Manda is you SIL and that she made you your wedding cake. I think it's all the more special when a cake is made rather than just bought.

Congrats on the 4 lbs lost in just two weeks. Boy do I wish I could exercise, my weight is coming off so slowly. In two weeks of being a WW angel, bar one little lapse I lost 1.5 lbs. OH well exercise will come in time, at least I am eating properly now.

Alison - how are you getting on with that GI diet book?

Wyllen - yes you are right, I know any loss is a good one, especially when I am not exercising. Of course I could just put those lbs back on this week so like I said, nothing is official till I weight in two weeks.

Hope PT wasn't too painful for you today!!

Hope everybody is having a great day, even those of us with weather that sucks

    Happy Halloween,

    Hugs,

    Ammi
  • WooHOO Catherine! You GO girl! Seriously, I'm SOO happy for you! Ain't love grand! I can't believe you'll have to wait six months AFTER you are married to move to Canada. Can't you at least move closer? Not that the North is that much fun in winter, but I suppose you need to get used to it anyway. Don't worry too awfully much about the wonderful diet kink. I was around 260 when I got pregnant with my son and aroung 258 after he was born. I gained 15 lbs total. Both mom and baby did just fine. (Staying home for two months after caused me to put on 20 though.)

I'm very late and must run. Wanted to say Hi to everyone. Congrats to the losers. Welcome to the newbies. Amy: I don't really know you, but Congratulations! And a huge Best Wishes to Catherine!!!
  • HAPPY HALLOWEEN! (Which by the way is evil when it comes to dieting! I so want to go and eat all the kiddie treats! That is why I STILL haven't opened the bags. Tonight, tonight.)

Congrats to all those with losses! No matter how small the loss is we are still headed in the right direction and that is what counts!

Amy's wedding was beautiful! And for her to only spend 4 days getting it together it was rather large! There were a lot more people there then I thought would be. Amy, I am glad that you all made it back home safe and sound, what a long drive!

I am down another 1.5lbs. I was surprised as it is that TOM and I didn't think that I had lost anything. YAY!

I have so much stuff to do to get ready for tonight. Carpets to clean, laundry to wash. Talk to you all later!

Have a GREAT day and week everyone!

    Manda
  • Morning Gals,

    Congrats to all the loosers!

Congrats to Amy on getting married. That is wonderful and I hope you will be very happy and blessed for many years to come.

Catherine: Wow! What a kink in the diet indeed! I hope all of your dreams come true! Let us know.

Blessings everyone and have a wonderful day
    Dogpal
  • Manda - congrats on the 1.5 lbs lost. It's even better when it's totally unexpected. Keep up the excellent work

That's great that you made the cake for Amy's wedding, I hope between the both of you at least one photo was taken of it. I love wedding photos, even pics of the cake

I hope you get lots of kids coming around for trick or treat so that once you open those candy bags it will all be gone before you have chance to even think about indulging

    Have a good time,

    Hugs,

    Ammi
  • Good Morning/Afternoon ladies~and Happy Halloween!

Well this morning I actually got to try my taebo bag. How fun! I think it needs more air in the middle section because when I hit it, it doesn't bounce back quite as quickly as I would like. I think it will be a great mix-up routine for when I get bored. I have started to make a chart/schedule for the wall so that each day I have to do something different.. exercise video, bike, weights etc. I get bored VERY quickly. This is going to try to keep things fun.

Ammi ~ Steven has never tried EverQuest. He plays GuildWars online (computer) though. All you do is buy the game and you can play online for free.

Catherine ~ Hopefully soon I will be able to "Welcome you to Canada". My hubby and I want to wait till I lose more weight before we try for children but I know if it happened now, I would be thrilled. We are all thinking of you and waiting to hear how your doc visit goes!!

Amy ~ Congratulations on your getting married. It is a wonderful thing!!! I have never been happier! And a 4lb loss is a great wedding gift to yourself! It is great that Manda made your wedding cake. I am making my SIL's cake for her wedding in July. Maybe by then, I will allow myself to try a piece *L*

Andrea ~ Glad to hear that you and your family are spending lots of time enjoying the fall. Winter will be here before we know it!!

I mentioned to Steven that I wanted to try snowshoeing this winter. I don't know if my body can handle it but I feel better just having the energy to mention it. We are going to go looking for second hand snowshoes so we can go in the woodland during the winter. Question for everyone, has anyone tried this? I want to know if I physically can do this??

Well, I think I will go and do some time on my bike before I have to clean my house more. I have decided to dress up a bit for the trick or treaters tonight. I wasnt going to but every year we always sparkle the outside of our house up and put out a bunch of dummies, tombstones etc. Since we get so many kids here, it is nice for them. We won't do the outside much but I will try to come up with a costume... more details on that to follow later*L*

Hope everyone has a spooky night!!

    Brenda
  • HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!!! Well last night was awful....I went to get my son some juice out of the refrigerator and noticed it wasn't cold at all.....well it seemed like the compressor wasn't working so we had to unload all of the food out of our side by side refrigerator.......talk about a lot of food...we just went to Walmart on Saturday to buy groceries and I also stocked up at Sam's. Luckily my parents have an extra refrigerator in their garage that was empty so we took all of the food over there. Well right before we left we noticed the compressor started working again...GO figure...it must have froze up or something. So we are taking our son trick or treating tonight by their house so we will bring all the food back with us since the refrigerator is cool now. Why couldn't it have happened when we didn't have that much food. Well atleast we got some exercise out of it.

I just got back from my son's Halloween Party at school. All of the kindergarten classes had a different activity in each room. Our room had the creepy walk...like a cake walk where you play the music, stop the music and call out the number and they get candy....So here we are with probably 15 bags of candy.........talk about temptation...anyways I didn't have not one piece but if I could have I would have sure loved to have a Reese's cup or two or three.

Oh well since I have no food because of the refrigerator situation...I am going to Subway for lunch. I don't know about dinner yet....I may run to the store and pick something up and cook it before we go trick or treating.

Ammi and Manda -- Congrats on the weight loss.

Amy -- Congrats on your wedding. I hope you have pictures to share with us.

Catherine -- You all work quick I hope you get good news at your doctor's appt.

I promise not to have any halloween candy today.....anybody else in on it with me?? We can fight temptation. You all have a great day!!

    Andrea
  • HI gals....had a VERY off plan weekend, so I'm not even going to weigh this week...

Catherine, you VIXEN you!! I hope you get everything you wish for!

Congrats to all you losers--I'm going to join you in that chorus next week!

Andrea: Congrats on meeting your goal!!
  • G'day all!
Andrea! I don't think I said it, so I hope you'll accept a belated WHOOP!WHOOP! ChaChaCHA! on reaching your mini-goal... EARLY! ...You'll be riding again, too! You're SO off to a great journey - 25 pounds in what, 6 weeks?! It's too bad that some of the riding places don't offer carraige driving. The insurance on it is REALLY horrendous! but it's SO much fun!

The hot-chocolate talk had me hustle out to buy some SF instant last night. I don't count points, I do calories, (protein, carbs and fiber, with an eye on fats... yes a little obsessive compulsive, and yes, I have been on the scale every morning for the last 2 weeks. I just don't get upset when they aren't perfect... scale went down one more yesterday, up two today - that's a natural fluctuation so I don't freak out...Besides, TOM will be here in a week or two and I can blame everything on him! On days when I think I've really blown it and I'm really bummed out about it, writing it down actually puts it in perspective - I've rarely done anywhere near as bad as i think I have....) I started talking about hot chocolate, SF only has 25 cals, plus a dolop of FF whipped cream? 15 cals. Your right - the real thing is BEST! But even SF/FF is a treat for under 50 cals. Keeps me from having the carb fits & cravings afterwards, too.

Ammi - Yeah, I miss riding. A year ago my friends at the barn convinced me to go for a quiet ride on my old 'Steega'. I've had him from 1yo & trained him. He had gaits like velvet & we were always so in tune. Just walking thru the woods that day, my face started leaking like crazy. I'm especially glad I took that ride since I'll probably never be able to ride him again. He's had 2 injuries to the same leg and will never be 100% sound again. He's still the sweetest, funniest, kissy-face pony I ever met... There's a girl at my barn who's both tall and not thin who bought a Percheron draft horse (or draught if you prefer). I'd love to ride him! He makes even my friesian look like a shetland pony!

Dogpal - YES! I've been to northern Idaho. One of the two most under-rated states (the other being Utah.) It's beautiful thru the eastern part, too. I'd LOVE to ride there!!! That's one thing about losing some weight. Most rental places have a limit on there horses of 210-250 pounds max. I really want to see more of the West from the back of a horse... and hon, you are SO coming down fast on the 3's - keep up the fantastic work!! ...I'll also root for your hubby's Vikings this year - especially when they play the Giants or the Jets... but maybe not so much against my poor Browns or the Bills ...My condolences on the kennel - I know how I would feel if my baby had to go to furbaby prison & I, too, hope Wyllen's pups are on the mend!

Wyllen - Don't worry about the Indian food - you did some pretty good damage control and hopefully had a fun evening. One meal won't make or break your diet, and is never as bad as you think... ok, except at McD's. More cals once in a while will probably bump up metabolism in the long run, so see? No damage done! By this time next week, will that one meal really matter in the big picture with as well as you're doing otherwise??? Keep up the great progress!

Voodoo - I have an American Quarter Horse (my old man), a Morgan/Arab cross (elderly but solid and sound) and a new, untrained friesian. I love the warmbloods! And Shire's are wonderful - I had a thoroughbred mare I almost bred to one once. Those crosses are quite popular as "heavy hunters" over here. I'm not doing anything strenous yet - just 20 mins walking & an occasional short jog, but it's good to be starting again, and I want to train the new guy next year. Talk about motivation! Sorry you didn't get to ride on vacation, and again, it would be nice if people offered driving- what a blast! .... Congrats on leaving the halloween evils in alone, too! And what's this about you going to NZ???

Brenda Don't be disappointed with WI this week. Two more down is VERY good progress! and besides, things in your chemistry fluctuate all the time. There was a guy on BIggest Loser (who was working out 20 hours/week and eating a really strict diet) who lost ZERO one week - the next week he lost 14!! He was averaging a pound a day loss, and he STILL showed '0' after one week. If anyone else here lost two pounds, you'd be cheering for them - so give yourself a WHOOP! WHOOP! and keep up the great work!!!!!

Julee! Your "retreat" sounds like temptation by the ton! You did SO great. I thought I was good because I managed to escape the brownies at a bonfire last night, but YOU really "show 'em how it's done!" Well done! ... Sounds like your dad is looking forward to you and Jason having a really awesome "Big Day"! It will Perfect, I'm sure!! ... And NOTHING could feel much better (short of your upcoming events) than having Mr. eat his hairless little words! AWESOME!!! So great to have people say "Wow!"

AMYLIZ! A huge CONGRATULATIONS and BEST WISHES FOREVER!! on your marraige! May you be blessed beyond your wildest dreams... and my your husband not turn out to be a game addict ...although that above many other things, like a neat freak ...AWEsome that you even lost weight!!!

Holy-Moly, Catherine! What a wild woman, and NOW??? Oh my goodness! What an incredible blessing!! DO keep us posted!!! I'm so thrilled for you!!! There's just nothing more one can say after that news!!
