Default Scales / Body Fat Monitors

Hi All,

I'm new to this board, and I would like to ask a question. Does anyone know of any BFMs or scales that can be used for over 23 stones? I'm new to this, and I'm wondering what to buy in terms of scales / BFM? Any help would be appreciated. Any other tips for those starting out?

You'll have to help me out (I'm mathmatically challenged) how much is a stone in pounds?

14 lbs to 1 stone I believe.

23 stones = 322 lbs.

Tanita scales go up to about 330 lbs and have body fat monitors as well. You're not allowed to post exact links for purchases and stuff, I believe. But I would assume you can do a basic search on the web and come up with plenty different items. Amazon.com has some for cheap. The scales measure in kg & lbs so you'll be good to go

I bought a Tanita scale at Bed, Bath & Beyond with a 400# capacity for ~$60, IIRC. Now that I am under 330# I can use a $12 scale from Walmart.

I have a separate Bodyfat Monitor (Tanita), that is handheld, but these things are incredibly unreliable. They are very sensitive to your hydration levels, and the further your bodycomposition is off the standard curve used to calibrate these things, the less reliable they are. If you are really muscular they actually overestimate your bodyfat percentage!

I think most of us can tell by eye whether or not we need to lose more weight.

I have a Weight Watcher's digital scale that goes to 380 lbs, and also weighs in kilos. During our move from Illinois to Wisconsin, the scale got switched to kilos, and (duh) I thought the scale was broken, and weighing me at 172 lbs. I told my husband I thought it needed new batteries, and when he took a look at it, he found my blunder.

I just bought a new digital scale that monitors your B.F., goes to 330lbs and has 10 user program. It only has lbs and Kg though. It was about $90 (Canadian). I had a cheaper one but it was exactly that cheap. So, I recommend that if you are going to invest in one make sure it is a good one. Good Luck !
