Question Walking in place vs. Walking

Walking in place vs. Walking
What are the advantages / disadvantages of walking laps vs. walking in place?
Do you burn more calories over the other?
better on joints?
etc...

If you get your heart rate up to whatever it would be if you were normally walking I can't see what would be the difference. I don't think it would be easier or harder on the joints. The only down side I could see is that it would be hard to keep it intense.

Thank You . That is what i figured as well.
I just remember seeing those dvds "Walk away the pounds" and wondering if it worked.

I tried walking in place today but if felt nothing like if i were walking laps. I was wondering if i ws doing something wrong. I started doing aerobic moves instead and then my heart rate jumped... walk walk walk.. skip.. jump.. side to side. haahah.

Sometimes i wish i had a treadmill at home!

Somehow I think it uses less calories because you don't have to propell yourself forward. Something about the laws of physics should be cited in that sentence but I don't remember them

I lost 40 lbs by following WW and doing Walk Away The Pounds DVD's. It is possible I would do the 1,2 and 3 mile walk each day. It is possible and we have some terrible winter months here. So walking out doors isn't something I can count on. I'm also an extreamly slow loser with bad knees so WATP videos I give 2 thumbs up. After I got the moves down. (which are basic and easy) I turned the volume off and put on my own music. She can get a bit to chatty for me anyways.

I use Walk Away The Pounds video and I love it. I prefer to walk outside with my little one when the weather permits but here in Washington, well.... it rains 9 months out of the year so this helps me get my 2-3 miles of walking in for each day. I also give it 2 thumbs up!!

I feel the same way. I wish I had a treadmill so bad. I feel like an idiot jogging/walking in place and it doesn't really feel like it's doing anything.

Mezmerize: I love your quote! 10lbs 10 times makes it seem so much easier.
