Default I cheated & peeked at the scale early! :)

Well, I hope I don't jinx myself lol. But I just have to blurt this out to the whole world lol.

Yesterday I cheated and looked at the scale early. It was around 10 in the morning and I was fully clothed, more then ussual.... long pants, heavy shirt, plus I really should have emptied my bladder first too lol. I normally weigh in with bike shorts and a thin t-shirt right after going to the bathroom first thing (around 6:15 ish) in the morning lol.

Anyway, according to the scale yesterday I was DOWN 1.2 pounds!!! I sure hope that is accurate and shows up again when it comes time for my real weigh in on Thursday morning! We shall see when the time comes.

Edited: I did not take that weigh in and put it in my weigh in results charts. I didn't think that would be right since I have been weighing in everything Thursday for awhile now.

OK... well I don't think I am going to weigh in early again. I decided to get on the scale again today to see what it says now. Again, I have big clothes on but not like yesterday. But today the scale said I gained 0.6 pounds from my weight below on my chart and/or I gained 1.8 pounds from my weigh in yesterday! Now I see for myself why they say NOT to weigh in more the once a week!!! I won't do this again because I can see it make for some bad days lol. I will just keep trying to and hope for a good weigh in on Thursday.

Sorry about your dissapointment. I'm sure your weigh in Thursday will be good. Guess that's why they say only weigh in once a week. Hopefully it's just water fluctuation.

That happened to me yesterday and I got so mad at myself for showing a gain. I also weigh in on THursdays so I am hoping I show a lose instead of the gain that showed yesterday.

Lessoned learned that is for sure! Some even say not to weigh in except for monthly. Which I don't like because then you can't tally back really and see where you may have made some errors. Plus, with women and the female cycles... who would want to do monthly? Lol. Not me for sure.

Patients in a virtue... I think that is what I have heard. I think I should start learning some of those too lol.

I hope we all have good weigh ins!

I used to be an absolute slave to my scale. Whatever it said could make or break my day. It was awful.

What really helped me was to weigh in every morning for about two months. I did this with the mindset that I wasn't checking my weight but charting my bodies natural fluctuations. I set my emotions aside for those months and didn't worry about the number at all. Sure enough, within a couple of weeks, I could see definate patterns emerging. Now the number on the scale doesn't bother me even those weeks that it doesn't budge. I know what my body is going to do before it does it - as long as I stay on plan, of course.

I doubt it is a method that would work for everybody. If you can't detach yourself from the number for those couple of months it would do more damage than good to see your weight go up and down. But, if you can, it really is a great way to demystify the scale and keep from becoming frustrating in the months that follow.

jawsmom,

I read about weighing in everyday in the "Curves" diet/exercise plan book. I do think that, that would drive me nuts!!! Lol. One week I tried to analize everything I did that previous week because of my weigh in. I don't think that would be good for me to do. But it sounds like a good way to get to know your body better!!! Maybe when I get stronger and more positive feeling about weight loss that would be something I could try out.

Tracy, I completely understand. I've been working at this since January. Only recently was I confident enough in my resolve to stick with it no matter what to face the scale on a daily basis. Once my weight loss started to slow and I hit a plateu or two it really was more helpful than scary. I am sure you will reach that point too. In the meantime just stick to your plan and remember that sometimes the scale has NO IDEA what it is talking about!

I read an article I'll have to find it for you.. it takes about your body storing fluids every day (mostly organs). It just really explains storage. It really helped me to understand weight flucuation.
I always pick the lowest weight through the week if I weigh in everyday. To me that is the true weight. I also notice if I dont get enough sleep during the day I retain at least a pound or two of fluids.
So dont give up and be happy for progress!

I was avoiding the scale religiously until weigh in day until I read that if it's a temptation then step on it. There's three things that could happen...1) show a lose and give you a feeling of accomplishment...2) show no lose or gain and give you a feeling of satisfaction...or 3) show a gain and give you a feeling of determination. I took that to mean there's absolutely nothing wrong with stepping on the scale early as long as you use it for the diet not against it. Helped me.

Also, it might help if you paid no attention to what's behind the decimal. Think about it, without the decimal you would have lost 1 pound and gained nothing.

Keep your chin up. You're doing great!

Carrie,

Good point!! After all, the doc don't pay any attention to anything past a decimal! I think I should stop with that and stick with the basic numbers! Thanks for pointing that out!

I am thinking about checking it daily. I was thinking about everything that jawsmom said about weighing in daily. And I really think it might help me get to know my body. It might help me to realize what foods I should eat more of and/or avoid. This would make for a big hand written diary maybe. But I am starting to think it would be worth it!

I like what you read too! That is a positive way to look at any result that could happen! Where did you read that at? I think that is a good way to look at it.

Lol, I can't remember where I read it. I've read sooooooo much lately regarding calories in and calories burned that I couldn't tell you where I learned anything.

I think getting to know your body is a great idea!

Carrie,

I am the same way! I read so many different things half the time I have a hard time keeping up with it all lol. But it never hurts to learn to much lol. I like to read several magazines because in there you read a lot of the latest information on diets and health and everything.
