Ok, here it goes, I hope someone understands this. . .I weighed right around 150 since like the beginning of high school. Right now I weigh 180. I feel like I look not that much heavier than I did at 150 (I thought I was really fat then too), at least not 30 pounds heavier. Here's my question, especially for anyone who's experienced this. Since I had gained so much weight, when I get down to 150 again, will I look different than I did before at 150? I know that I had kinda a warped sense of how I looked back then, so I will obviously see myself differently at 150 (and appriciate it, that's for dang sure), but will I really look the same? Does that make sense?
I would think it depends on more than just the number on the scale. The more muscle you have, the more different you will look. Chances are you will not have the same body fat percentage at 150 this time around (since I would guess you've been exercising as part of your weight loss plan), so you might look smaller (less fat) or even a little bigger (but heathier due to more muscle). Won't know till you get there--our bodies have a way of shifting things around on us!
I'm gonna say 'not likely' the same and agree with Jill regarding muscle mass, fat % and overall fitness.
Very shortly after my 3rd child was born (he's almost 19) I was considered by my family to be the slim one. I was around about 132 pounds. I am much slimmer and firmer now. Those waist bands would be too big. We were sorting old photographs the other day and I found pictures from my honeymoon (1979). I was about 125 then but I looked so sloppy. I had a belly in my bathing suit and any pictures that showed my thighs ... oh my.
If you're more active (and I seem to recall that you are exercising) you'll be smaller. All this has little to do with your perception of yourself. But we can work on that too
Yes very true. Tone tone tone tone! And you'll have a different body when you are 150. IF you do not exercise and you only lose weight then chances are you will look the same. Hope this gives incentive to get moving!
Thanks all. And yes, I am very active. I do at least 30 mins of cardio 6 days a week (more lately, around 45 mins to an hour) and I have been adding Pilates and Tae Bo. It seems like the more days and weeks that pass, the more I want to workout, so that's exciting. I wake up early every morning and do my cardio before I even eat breakfast, and then sometimes I will do a little more later in the day. I didn't even think of the body fat percentage, duh! If I am at a lower % than I was before of course I will look more fit, I don't know why I didn't consider that! Thanks again!
I have to agree with the above. My weight right now is somewhere around 200, but I look at least 10 pounds thinner, due to the fact that I have to walk several miles every day between work, school, and my house, so I have muscle! So really it will all depend! *G*
I think half is that you will actually look different, half is mental. I have been 150 three times -- once on my way up when I had been gaining, once after an unhealthy diet where I did not exercise, and finally on my way down to my current weight. This most recent time I wore a smaller clothing size at 150 than I did before, thanks to the exercise, so I absolutely looked different.
Also, a big thing is that I FELT different at 150 now than I did a few years ago. When I was gaining, I had felt fat since I was 125. After the unhealthy diet, I felt good but still thought I was pretty flabby (which I was, since I didn't exercise). Now I feel like while I am not yet where I want to be, I am well on my way, and I look way better than I did last time.
So, if you are exercising, you WILL look different, and I guarantee you you will FEEL different.
I kind of understand. I feel like I have looked the same everywhere from 230-195...at least at the time. When I look at pictures I can really tell a difference and I don't think at my highest or my lowest I was accurately judging what I really looked like in the mirror. I feel better now than I ever have before even though I'm somewhere in between my highest and lowest. Plus, I am the same size 10lbs heavier so I know that muscle/tone is playing a big role.
I'm sure you'll look different at a healthy 150 than at a less healthy 150, but taking progress pictures helps me to really see the difference when I don`t see much change in the mirror.
I have been at 170 for several months now. I know that I am losing inches, because my clothes keep getting looser and I've been told I look like I've lost weight weekly.
I've been wondering what the deal is since I've been at the same weight for so long, but I guess since I"ve been doing weights and cardio, i"m just toning up and all the weight is readjusting, either becoming muscle, or just leaning out.....
I don't think you'll look the same... you have to keep in mind that your body was still growing a little while you were in high school. So you would have probably filled out a little more in different areas on your body. As a teenager you have a smaller frame. You'll probably healthy at 150, where as in your teens you would have looked a little heavier on your frame. That's my theory. Keep up your hard work!
