Default Favorite Books/Authors?

What are all of you reading?
Right now I almost done with Shannon Olson's first book, Welcome to my Planet, and I must say it is awesome. I just ordered her second book and I can't wait til it gets here. She is probably my favorite author now. It's basically all about her life, but I thought it was fiction. It's dramatic at times, but funny also.
My other favorite book would be When my Sister was Cleopatra Moon, by Frances Park. It really makes you think. It's about two Korean sisters growing up in washington DC. How they handle their lives so differently and such.

Who are your favorite authors? What are your favorite books?

I'm a Sci Fi/Horror buff. I mostly stick to Stephen King, Dean Koontz and Robert A. Heinlein. Right now I'm re-reading "Firestarter". Also reading a lot of parenting and pregnancy mags...for the time being. LOL

Total Stephen King lover! And Terry Pratchet!

Reading Made In America by Bill Bryson, Vanity Fair by WM Thackery, Cat Confidential by someone I don't remember, Peoplewatching by Desmond Morris and a book about the Eden Project. I just haven't found something that's really gripping me at the moment, that's why I'm reading so many! I have a book in each room! One or 2 for work, one for the bath!

After watching Sahara (because I'm a Matthew McConaughey JUNKIE , I got the Sahara book at the library and have been reading all the Dirk Pitt books by Clive Cussler. They're really fun to read because you always know that everything will end up okay with Dirk and his friends. Kinda like watching Walker, Texas Ranger...it was nice, entertaining, stress-free viewing for a Saturday night because you always knew when you saw the bad guys, it was only a matter of time before Chuck Norris mopped the floor with them.

Other than that...I like to read the books my 11-year-old daughter gets from school or other books for her age level and then I make her read them, too. As I said, I like stress-free reading, and kids books are always stress free and adventurous (sp). I just finished a really cute book calles Summer of the Monkees and I just loved it to death...I started bawling at the end I was so happy with the way it turned out. Now we're reading the Chronicles or Narnia series.

My DD likes the Dear America series, too (of course I've read them, as well). These are all books that are written in journal form that are supposed to be from a girl's journal in a particular period of time in American History. For instance, the first one we read was Winter of the Red Snow. This was 'written' by a girl that was living in Valley Forge, PA during the time that General George Washington had his army camped out there. A tiny bit graphic, but not nearly as graphic as I'm sure the real revolutionary was was. Just enough to bring it home for the kids reading it. The girl in the book and her family eventually got a little job from Martha Washington to collect all the soldiers dirty laundry and wash it every Monday and it told of the girl going through the snow to get to the headquarters and how nice Martha Washington was to her, but strict and firm with the people running the show...how in awe she was every time she saw George Washington once in a while. It was sooo cool!! And educational without DD realizing it!! Right now she's reading one about a girl that is traveling with her family via covered wagon to the Oregon Territory. Haven't read it yet, but will when she's done with it. Kids books are so cool.

My absolute favorite books are the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon!! They've got it all--mystery, fantasy, sci-fi, romance, humor, suspense, historical fiction...they're awesome! I can't wait for the new book to come out!

I also really love a 3-book series by Sara Donati that starts with "Into the Wilderness", and I really enjoy the Harry Potter books. Currently I'm on the last book in the Chronicles of Narnia series...it's only taken me a week to read all of them, but they're so good!

Christy: I love the Outlander series, too. I forget which one I'm on, but Claire just went back to the 40's and is trying to convince her daughter that her father is from the 1600's or whatever. It's been a while since I've read it. I have to take breaks from it from time to time. I'm also a Harry Potter fanatic...what's Children's books without HP? We're eagerly awaiting Goblet of Fire in the movies in November. Can hardly wait!! That was my favorite book of them all. And I'm on Book Three, the Horse and his Boy, in the Narnia series. Can't wait for the Closet, Witch and Lion (or something like that) film to come out as well!!

techwife, if you like the Outlander series you'll probably like the Sara Donati ones...she has a similar writing style, and is actually friends with Diana (Diana wrote one of those little endorsements in her books). The newest in the Outlander Series (A Breath of Snow and Ashes) will be out on Sep 27th...WOO HOO!!

I can't believe that we not only have the same taste in books, we're both reading the same series too! LOL I've just restarted Outlander...it's oh so good!! And I think my favorite Narnia book so far has been #5 (The Voyage of the Dawn Treader). It's really interesting to see all the Christian parallel's in this series too, if you're into that sort of thing!

Default Recently read

I've been a huge Stephen King fan for over 20 years but never was interested in the Dark Tower series. Well, this year I finally knuckled down and started reading them. I just finished the final book last night (there are 7 books in all). I LOVED them and would recommend them to anyone. In fact, I found myself reading the last book very slowly, to draw it out, because I didn't want the story to end!

I've also recently read "The FairTax Book" by Neal Boortz and John Linder. Yes, it's a little dry (it's about taxes, after all!) but a must-read for anyone who's tired of our present taxation system.

I also really like the Xanth series of books by Piers Anthony. I haven't been able to find them all yet, but would love to read more.

My sister used to read the Stephen King books when I was young. She was in college at the time and woudl lay awake in bed for hours, not being able to sleep after. Which is one reason why I steer clear of horror/suspense.

Christy: I will check out Sara Donati. Also...my name is Kris, too!!
