Okay, instead of going to Dairy Queen, I'm going to post here about how badly I'd like a double fudge cookie dough Blizzard. My 89 year old father got into a car accident (his car only, thank goodness), was taken by ambulance to the community hospital near his assisted living facility, then transferred to the major trauma center in Seattle. And after a disconnection, a half hour on hold, and a "scolding" because I interrupted a procedure (hey, I didn't tell them to transfer me directly to his room--I just wanted to know what was happening!), I still don't know what's going on with him, although they said he was alert. They're checking for internal bleeding because his blood pressure is really low. So I want to eat. That's my usual reaction to stressful situations. I've managed to conquer it in most cases, but sitting here one state away not knowing what's happening has activated my high-level food response.
I bet if I asked my DH, he'd go to Dairy Queen for me, but I've got to keep my mouth closed and my fingers busy. And, hey, if anybody reads this and knows how to get answers from a large, busy hospital ER in another state, please let me know! Oh, and I'm calling tomorrow to get his keys taken away, although I'm pretty sure he won't want to drive again after this anyway.
Sheila, I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. I hope all goes well. (((HUGZZ)
Ok now just think of that picture (5lbs) of that UGLEY yellowish-orangesish- squishish -jelly piece of fat in that blizzard. All cold and maybe hard from the bits and chunks of you don't know what...(you know that is all it really is) MMMMM MM doesn't that sound good!!
Type/Read/Knit/ Draw ect.... and keep those fingers busy. Maybe DH could cut up some fresh veggies for you.
Hope everything is ok for your dad. Thoughts and prayers for him and you.
Maybe this will help you smile despite what is going on ~ when I read your title ~ I thought maybe you were having a hot flash and needed to cool off and wanted the snowy kind of blizzard.
Oh Sheila, I'm so sorry to read this. Hope you're having better luck getting information and that your Dad's doing okay (I know how stressful and frustrating it is when you're not close at hand and feel powerless). Stay strong and stay away from Dairy Queen, it won't really provide any comfort and will just add to the stress. Please give us an update soon!
Avoided the Dairy Queen, thank goodness. Thanks for all your good wishes. Getting information is incredibly frustrating. First it's low blood pressure that could be internal bleeding, then it's rib fracture, then it's not rib fracture, then it's what low blood pressure? Then the hospital couldn't even find him this morning. I finally reached a social worker who found him still in the ER because there are no beds available yet. She told me that he has a fracture of the C-5 vertabrae in his neck, and a bruise on his chest from the steering wheel (old car; no airbags). She didn't know anything about the low blood pressure. I told her that his toe is infected with the MRSA bacteria, picked up in May from another hospital, which is a superbug that they don't want roaming their halls. She said she'd give my number to the doctor, but I doubt I'll get a call. I watch ER!
Sheila, so sorry to hear about your dad! Isn't it amazing how awful hospitals are about contacting families? It's really appalling and no other industry would get away with it! I work in the health care field and constantly have to shake my head at how awful hospitals are at coordinating patient service, despite many truly dedicated and wonderful doctors and nurses.
Anyway, I really hope they contact you soon. We'll be keeping you in our thoughts.
Hey, btw, if the craving for cookie dough ever comes back, I know there IS a cookie dough Balance bar. It's not as delicious as a blizzard by ANY stretch of the imagination, but it recently helped me stave off a craving for Ben & Jerry's !
Sheila I'm so sorry to hear about your dad, I hope he recovers quickly. Was the fracture to c5 spinal? Or was the injury just to the vertebrae? I'll cross my fingers it was just to the vertebrae. (I'm asking because my husband broke his neck at c6,7 and is paralysed from it. His was a spinal injury though.)
Hi. I'm really sorry to hear about your dad. When someone you love gets up there in age there's already worry to begin with... (I live with my 85 year old grandma and I am constantly worrying about her driving and just in general!) About the Blizzard... I had one of those on Friday and it wasn't all that wonderful. Sometimes I think that thinking about something tastes better than actually eating it. I'm usually completely disappointed when I give in to something like that... Never as good as I imagined it would be! My prayers and thoughts are with you and your father.
