Default Frustrated

Hello All. I have taken 2.5 years to loose 125 pounds. I had a very stressful year (sold house, divorce, new apartment, exercise injury, etc) and have gained about 25 pounds back (even before I hit my goal!). I started South Beach yesterday to help remove the last of it but was wondering if this kind of thing happened to anyone else. How did you deal with the emotional aspect? I feel horrible about it and am beating myself up over it big time. I am trying to get back on track but feel out of control.

Any advice would be great. Thanks for listening.

Healthy - One thing is to try and not beat yourself up for gaining, but to look at how well you did! You lost 123 lbs!! That is wonderful!!! I haven't lost near the amount you did. I did manage to lose 40lbs only to gain back 17lbs! Stress and personal problems can all lead to added lbs. I honestly think it's good that I gained those lbs. It has humbled me. I thought I had all under control. I'm now looking at what triggered my eating. Not just saying stress but the actual moment. In one of my cases is people asking why haven't you lost more you workout and eat right... then I started to doubt myself. Ugly thing to do.
Now I'm ready for them. I'll explain that I'm not in a race and everyday I'm healthier. Or if I'm in a mood just ignore them. Some people haven't a clue
What I did to get myself back on track (it's an on going process) is to tell my self you Lost 40 lbs YOU CAN DO THIS!! So give it your best everyday one day at a time and soon it will click! If you mess up, you mess up that is how life is Learn from it and keep the fighting!! That is what I tell myself.

Hi Healthy4good, I just want to say good job for deciding to nip this thing in the bud before it gets any further out of hand! You've done a fantastic job and you obviously know what works for you, so getting back on track now is the surefire way to take the extra weight back off and get down to your ultimate goal in no time. I would recommend checking out the maintainer's forum for info and discussions on relapse and weight regain, since it's a topic that seems to come up a lot. Believe me, I understand that out of control feeling, as I'm sure we all do, so stick around and we'll do everything we can to help.

Beverly

First, you have to just STOP beating yourself up about it - get past it and start anew! You know what caused you to gain a bit back, but you also know what you have to do to get it off again. I don't think it's an easy battle for anyone and we all have our ups and downs - hang in there!

WELCOME!

Hi Healthy4Good:

I think the fact that you have lost and kept off over 100 pounds is awesome even if you did gain some of it back. The gaining back thing happened to me so I can understand why it's so upsetting. You're smart...you're doing something about it immediately where I took three years to get serious again causing me to gain double the weight back. I guess when it first started happening I just pretended nothing was changing and eventually I managed to convince myself that being 300 pounds was no big deal because I didn't look that big (I thought I looked like less than 200...lol). As far as some advice, I'd just say that there's no reason to dwell on gaining the weight back because it's there and allowing yourself to be upset about it isn't going to make it go away any quicker. So, be proud of your progress! I think feeling out of control comes from the amount of time it takes to see results... It's hard to tell if what you're really doing is working until you see something happening and even then it's not always so easy to feel good about everything! So, congrats on the loss and don't dwell on the gain! Soon, it'll just be a distant memory!
