Just wanted to let everyone know (in case I don't have time to post later today) that tomorrow I leave for a two-week vacation in Maine! Just didn't want anyone sending out the dogs, even though I've been kinda "lurky" lately, anyway.
I have to share how excited I am about this trip. One week of it my hubby and I will be camping and canoeing the Allagash River with my 18-year-old nephew. The trip is nearly 70 miles, so it's going to be a bigger physical challenge than I've ever experienced before. It's definitely not something I would even have CONSIDERED before I started losing weight, so it feels like a real milestone.
The other week will be the more of an emotional challenge, as we're spending it at my hubby's parents house in Maine . Actually, I'm sure it'll be a lot of fun, but it brings with it its usual share of food pressures and struggles. I'm gonna take lots of hikes to offset any potential slipups.
Please wish me luck, and I'll fill you in when I get back (maybe even share some pics) Hope everybody is well and on plan while I'm gone.
Enjoy your vacation Jennifer. Where in Maine? We lived there for 20 years (Skowhegan). I miss the beauty of it, but not the cold (was 32 below on the thermometer our last winter there) or shoveling all that snow. My daughter, son and I are trying to cook up a trip up there to visit ~ a trip down memory lane.
This spring there was a movie on HBO ~ Empire Falls ~ that was filmed in the town we lived in, and the town where my husband worked. It was fun to watch it and see familiar sites and scenery.
My in-laws live in Rangeley, Maine, which in Maine terms is actually pretty close to Skowhegan -- only 71 miles away! it really is beautiful there. The canoe trip will be on the Allagash, which is in an even MORE rural part of Maine, up very close to the Quebece border at the tip of the state.
It really is beautiful there. Rangeley is one of the only places I've ever been on vacation where I TRULY relaxed... life slows wayyyyyy down. I can't wait!
Yay, Jen! I'm so happy you're doing this!! I can't wait to hear how much you loved it! I used to LOVE to canoe! I grew up mostly in NYC, as you know, but from ages 10-17, half of every month was spent in the city, and half of every month in southwest Florida, living right on the water, and I used to canoe alone roundtrip, across the river and back, about 4 miles a couple of times a week. 70 miles, though!! Whew! I think you're going to have a blast, and I celebrate this milestone.
Ooooh, Maine! That's one of our wanna-go's. I don't think a canoe trip is in the cards, but a week or two in a cabin would be Nirvana. Have a great time! Take pictures and post them, please?
Have a wonderful time!! I love Maine, although I've only been to a small section near New Hampshire. My DH once took a canoe trip on the Allagash from north of Moosehead Lake to Fort Kent, and loved it. He said watch out for the bugs, though!
