Ok, everybody! Show us what you've got! We all know that in order to get it off and keep it off, we've got to make regular exercise a regular part of our lives. Here's where you can hold yourself accountable, share your pride in getting it done, and get support for your efforts!
I did very well on the weekend.
2 x 30 mins of treadmill
1 x 30 mins of "Killer Legs" video
1 x 30 mins of swimming
30 mins of various reps of free-weights
Can't believe I'm saying this...but I am really enjoying my daily work-outs for the past 7 weeks. It really seems to have clicked when I started by focusing on feeling better.
I walked 2 miles in the swealtering heat and rode the exercise bike for 6 miles (30 minutes). The DJ's on the radio station I listen to were saying that anyone could do 10 sit-ups so I did 10 sit-ups - I should have tried for more, but I'm happy with the 10 for today.
All I did today was my warm up of 5 minutes jumping rope before I did my 8 Minute Moves followed by 5 minutes of stretching.
As I did 45 minutes of running/walking yesterday leaving my legs pretty sore I thought it would be a good idea to take a break today.
Any of you not ready to go all out but are looking for tips to help ease you gently into exercise? How about those who are going all out already, but are looking for some neat little extras? Did you know everyday things can be done a little differently so that more calories are burned? Here's a few "get fit" tips:
Jill, those were great tips, thanks for posting them!
Last night I finally got my butt down to the gym. I only did 20 mins on the ellpitical. (I was doing 45 mins to an hour) I did some arm stuff with the weight machines. Im just glad I actually went down there!
I did however sit down and do a formal plan for free weight exercises. I feel good about it and will start on that this evening. I was doing some arm work in the past couple of weeks but was sort of going at it blind.
Yesterday I didn't do any exercise because I woke up too late to do cardio before my surgery yesterday. I figured that I could still do some cycling with the stitches in my chest, but the surgeon told me to hold off all exercise last night and this morning.
So far this afternoon I've done lower body weights -- I had to do an abbreviated workout because holding the weights in my hands hurt my chest, but I still did enough to make my legs wobble! Later on I'll do some cycling -- I'll come back to update afterwards.
Amy Jo, love your "tricep lift things." I know all those exercises have names, but for the life of me, I can't remember what they are. The trainer says how much weight are you lifting on your chest press, and I'm thinking, duh, what's a chest press! I do know the name of my favorite tricep exercise, but only because it's such a great name--"skullcrusher!" Who could forget that?
So, I went to my first yoga class today. It's beginning yoga, with a very nice instructor. The hardest part for me was sitting in the meditation at the beginning. I'm going to sit in a chair next time. Think I'll go again next week, although it makes a long day at the gym because I do a circuit class and extra weight lifting before yoga. Does anyone else do yoga? I'm interested in how it's helped you.
What a great name, "Skullcrusher"! Reminds me of a Real Ale I used to over-indulge in. Lifting pints is more biceps than triceps though so I'm guessing it's not the same thing at all.
I spent an hour stretching today when I was washing down the bathroom walls. I didn't think I'd be doing any exercise at all after I was overcome with bleach fumes. I was okay after a couple of hours though, so no excuse for me.
I've also been testing out various fitness DVDs and videos from the library. Thanks to people raving about it here, I've just discovered WATP and I love it! It'll be great when it's too hot or too cold to walk outdoors for any significant length of time. Since that's about 10 months of the year here, I'd better invest in my own copies.
[I wish I'd made a video of hubby joining in this afternoon. He actually weighs my goal weight, but man, is he unfit! Still, he managed 5 minutes or so.... <snigger>]
Started a running program today; meant to prepare you for running a 5K race. Have no plans to run a 5K but after the running I did last weekend I thought it might be fun to do on a regular basis. Starting out easy with just a 15 minute run which actually breaks down into 7 minutes walking, 8 minutes running. Will gradually increase the amounts I am running each week. Here's what I did today.
Warm up-5 Minutes jumping rope at a steady pace; 8 Minute Moves (worked out my Shoulders and Abs); Cool down-10 minutes stretching
