A lot of healthy diets are actually starting to encourage a little of both. It's not all carbs you have to watch out for--for example, vegetables have carbs, but those are good for you! It's the processed ones you have to be careful with: refined flours and sugars. Switch to whole grains, cut back on sugar and starches, and fill your diet with veggies and fruits, and your calories will actually drop too. But no matter what type of calories you're getting, calories still count. 3500 calories of sugar is 3500 calories of starch is 3500 calories of protein is 3500 calories of fat.
