No, but the amount you eat affects the glycemic load which is basically the percentage of the GI number (50 = 0.5) times the grams carbs in the amount you eat. (I'm not sure how you count fiber since it lowers the GI).
There is an updated food list in the FAQ section of this forum. If you follow that for the first phase and check out the P1 recipes on this site you shouldn't have to worry about the glycemic index just yet. Basically in phase 1 you can eat lean meats, healthy fats, nuts, legumes, tons of vegetables, lowfat cheeses, and 2 glasses of lowfat or ff milk daily. Believe it or not there is a huge variety of meals and recipes you can make from this combination. Meanwhile you can be studying up on the GI since it will come in handy in the next phase of the diet when you begin to introduce low GI carbs slowly back into your diet. Good Luck!!
