Have any of you felt like this? I was small before I got pregnant and had my son. I gained 150lbs (yes you read that right) and my sons birthday is next month and he will be 4. I have tried everything except this plan. Atkins worked for me but I got to the point where I would see meat, cheese and eggs and feel sick to my stomach. I am scared I am going to fail at this too. My husband and I are trying to get pregnant and I know its the weight that wont let me get pregnant. That and I have PCOS which makes it harder to lose too. I went to the market today and got some cottage cheese and eggs and stuff to make the mexican bake for tomorrow night. I just cant help but feeling in a week I am going to fail at this. A week and a half ago I decided I had to do something and cut out sweets and soda and lost 7lbs but then gained 2lbs back. I picked SBD b/c I need something structured and well its my last hope. I will be on the board a lot because I need as much help as I can get. My husband is a fitness and health junkie and being a firefighter has a very nice body. I know when I say I am going on another diet he doesnt even believe in me anymore. I want to believe this will be it. I get really hungry often, does anyone know any "free" foods that we can have if we are starving and wont affect anything? Thanks for listening! Tomorrow will be day #1 and will post how it goes!

Kimberly, welcome! You CAN do this, hon! This is a great plan, and there are a number of girls here who have done really well with losing large amounts of weight.
Check out the FAQ... there's lots of great info there.
And this is a really good post... I'd print this out... it simplifies things enormously.
Post lots, and DON'T give up! We're here for you!
Hey Kimberly! Welcome to South Beach. I think you'll really like it here. You just gotta keep plugging away and stick with it no matter what. I know, I know, easier said than done! We're all here for you. This site is great and has kept me on track so far better than anything I've ever done. It'll work for you too. Check out the recipes and post often to hold yourself accountable. I've seen variations of this quote on this site, "failure isn't falling down, it's not getting back up"....how true is that?!? Slips will happen but they just have to happen less often than before. Good luck, girl! You can do it!
Thank you for the warm welcomes and encouragement. I will update throughout the day. I checked out this forum for hours yesterday and last night and felt well prepared before I even got to reading the book. Glad I found this site! =)
Hmmm...150 pounds from 1 pregnancy? Did the doctor check you out?
Have you figured out why you are eating? The emotional reasons? A lot of the time we eat it's to fill a different type of hunger but we don't know what it is so we call it food hunger. Maybe it's more intimacy or anger that you don't want to express or depression. One book I read mentioned something about heart hunger, where we really want a connection with people but don't know how so we shove it down and drawn it out with food.
Hopefully this makes sense. I'll try to explain better tomorrow (if you're still talking with me ) I have a dr appt today.
I TOTALLY hear you. I have been trying to lose the same 30 pounds for ten years, and I always give up after about 10 pounds. Like clockwork. The only reason I think this will be different is what I have read about the addictive nature of sugar and what it can do to the blood sugar of people who are highly sensitive to it. It seems that high-glycemic carbohydrates (i.e. refined sugar) causes a chemical reaction similar to that of drugs or alcohol. It certainly makes sense to me when I'm out looking for candy like some kind of crazy person! It alters my moods.
So when I read that sugar is addictive, Atkins and South Beach suddenly made a lot of sense to me. The only way to maintain "sobriety" is by abstaining from the substance that causes cravings.
My problem seems to be that after a while, my brain plays tricks on me and says "You've done so well so far, you must be in control, so you can have what you want now". That's the crazy part about it. I'm hoping that checking in all the time to these boards and getting support from other people will help me remember that I can't manage my weight or my sugar intake on my own.
Hi!! I love this because for the very first time in my life I am not craving sugar! I mean at times...while in the store or at a restaurant I will see something and say "Oh man that looks good" but I think that not being hungry and getting the sugar out of my system has really helped me!!
((((((((Hugs))))))))) and having this site and support will help loads!!!!
There are a lot of really great recipes! No need to get tired of anything!
Have a great first night!!
Hi Sarah- I didnt eat a ton and the DRS werent concerned after I gained 100lbs. Then I got put on the GD diet but I kept gaining. After I had my son I was diagnosed with PCOS so that is why its so hard for me to lose weight. As far as my pregnancy weight I used to diet so much I did pig out when I wanted to and I just gained a ton but they could never figure out why so much. Besides PCOS I have nothing else wrong with me and have had every test out there. I eat when I am hungry which is often. With PCOS I often feel starved and have to eat a lot just to make my blood sugar stable because I feel so weak. I almost never eat junk.
GG you are right on target. I always say a taste wont hurt and that tastes becomes a lot more than tastes. Giving up coke cola has been one of the hardest things. I really really miss my soda and juice more than anything in the world. I get sick of tea and water and sugar free koolaids fast.
Shortie Thanks! I feel like I had a good first day. Better than my first day of Atkins thats for sure. I am just looking fwd to being able to add healthy carbs to my diet in the near future!
Take it one day at a time, one meal at a time. Clean out your cabinets and get rid of your trouble foods.
You may find this woe will naturally leval you out-hunger wise, after the phase 1 part.
It will be hard at times but your health is worth it. Your baby (I know 4 year olds don't think they are babies but we know differently) deserves to have a healthy Mommy to run after him. One with lots of energy.
I can't believe your drs didn't think anything was strange when you put on so much weight. I'd be freaking if I had put on so much weight in such a short time.
There is a PCOS forum on this site, maybe they will have some more advice to help.
Thanks Sarah! Yes I agree I didnt want to see my weight but when I saw 2 instead of 1 I was like wait a second. I did eat but not enough to make me gain that much. I was also on bedrest a lot of the time and had gestational diabetes which added to the weight.
I tried losing after and was finally diagnosed with PCOS. We are trying to get pregnant again and I am hoping with the help of losing weight and learning to eat right I will lose and then get pregnant!
Kimberly
Hang on. You need this. SB is not a diet, but a lifestyle. It is perfect for people with insulin related problems like yours. If you stick with us you will lose the weight, I promise. Reserve some time for yourself to get some exercise. At the end of phase 1 you will fell so much better you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner.
Read the book. It has important information. I also recommend you get the guide book as well. I carry it to the grocery store with me because I always find mystore at the store wondering if something that looks good for me really is.
Go shopping for a new doctor. You deserve someone who cares about you.
Proudmother- Thank you so much! Day #1 was a breeze as I was out and about all day, day #2 (yesterday) tested me as I was home most of the day and felt a little hungry but I did some extra veggies and told myself I had to keep going and did, today day #3 is about the same as yesterday. All in all I really do feel great that I am finally doing something for me and this time I know I wont fail.
By your ticker it looks like you are doing great, how do you feel?
