I was reading an article in the July issue of Shape magzine (p. 102) and it said that ...
"If you're overweight, the pill may not prevent pregnancy as well as it does in normal weight women" it goes on to say " "those with a BMI upward of 32, which is considered obese, had a 70% greater risk". Very Interesting.
My daughter had gained some weight and when she went in to get an exam before renewing her BC pills, she was told that the BC pills were no longer effective because of her weight. She's since lost some weight, but the doc did put her on different birth control.
A woman I worked with was prescribed a double dose of the contraceptive pill because of her weight. I'm guessing she was around the 250 pound mark, although she never said.
I have never been told this either! And I used to be on the pill until I switched to an IUD. My doc did say that if I lose a consideral amount of weight, as I will!, that I will need to have a new IUD inserted because the old one could shift around as excess weight is lost.
OMG!!! I guess it's a good thing hubby "got fixed" then. I got pg with both of mine while using bc & I was as heavy as I am now. So, I guess I'll be EXTREMELY?? fertile once this weight comes off?!?!
I wasn't on birth control. We had faulty man birth control
Me too!!! Fortunately I got "Christmas" in August last year....It was nipped in the bud/balls... Funny, it didn't take much argument after the pregnancy as it did before the pregnancy.
The way I look at it, whatever's meant to be will be.... I've had 3 people I know (who aren't overweight), get pregnant while on the pill!
I've been on the pill for 5 years now, and I'm sure hoping I don't get pregnant... I just need a little more time for me & Steve before a baby comes along. However, if I somehow did end up pregnant... I would embrace it and love every minute of it!
