I am restarting WW after having a baby. Are there any nursing mothers here who would like to correspond or start a thread?

Default Enjoy!

Hi,

My nursing days are now but a fond memory. I nursed my daughter two years and my son, 16 months. I followed WW through both pregnancies and while nursing them both.

It's been so long I forget which plan I was on at the time, but I had to add the equivalent of about 300 extra calories a day while pregnant and about 400 extra while nursing. I lost all of my pregnancy weight in about nine months and ate very well. My stomach also got very flat quite rapidly with the nursing.

All the best to you with your precious baby!

I am a nursing mommy!!! Mikayla is almost 6 months old now and nursing about every 3 hours during the day and about 8 hours at night. I would love to correspond more as I am just starting WW and doing it pretty much on my own (No books, meetings, etc...just me and these websites).

Default Me, too!

I just returned from vacation and saw this thread, which is why I didn't respond earlier!

In addition to my older children (9, 6, and 4) I am exclusively nursing a 7 month old (today!) baby girl. I am actually planning to get back on WW (at home) in the next days. I'm not sure as I add in solids what I'm supposed to do with my points. The booklet says to eat in the higher point-range as long as the baby is nursing in one spot, yet in another it says until the baby starts solids--as though the two are one and the same! I'll be nursing for at least 5 more months, probably longer, so anybody know what to do w/points when the babies start solids?

It would be wonderful to correspond with others encountering the unique challenges of losing weight while breastfeeding!

One other question--I've heard that you shouldn't lose more than a pound per week while breastfeeding because of toxins released in the blood being passed along to the baby. But nobody I've asked has ever been able to back that up. Anybody know the truth about that?

I am here and I am interested in talking to other nursing mothers........ I just don't get to post much because I am always having to hold a baby.

I have two boys 8 and 6 and an almost 3 week old girl. She seems to do best when I am holding her (don't they all?) but I just can't get anything else done! Ugh!

ps hey these smileys are amazing!

HI. I just weaned my baby last month. But I can tell you what I did. As I started solids for my baby, I slowly went down in points. For instance after he was seriously eating solids once or twice a day, I went from 35 points to 33. The next month from 33 to 31 or 30, etc. I am now back down to the 18 to 23 point range. I tell you, it's a lot funner to have those extra points!!! But at least I didn't have to go from 35 points to 23! You can tell when you need to drop your points down, if you aren't losing, just drop down one or two points. Take it slow. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion, Chee--I was a bit unnerved at the idea of going from . . . can't actually remember how many points I'm at, but going from nursing to non-nursing points that abruptly was scary!

I'm trying hard to get dd interested in solids simply because I think it's time, but she just doesn't go for the pureed stuff! She only wants stuf she can hold and eat. She loves crackers and breadsticks but those aren't the most healthy things in the world, at least the ones she's eaten! I gave her a piece of toast this morning (whole wheat this time) and she seemed okay with it, nibbled a couple of bites. Anyway. I need to worry about my eating as much as hers right now!

What are you other nursing moms doing for exercise? Anything?

bc, congratulations on your new baby! I remember that feeling like it was yesterday. Actually, it was yesterday! Even though my dd is 7 months, she is still very attached to her momma and wants to nurse fairly often and wants to be held a lot. She does play on the floor, too, but I feel like most of my time is spent with her, or cleaning/cooking/laundry/etc. for the rest of the family! In fact, the only way I'm on here right now is by "cheating". I'm supposed to be cleaning the kitchen, just don't want to.
