Default Calling all Canadians

I'm just wondering if any of you can tell me about Long Point near London, Ontario. What is it like out there? I was looking at mapquest and saw this peninsula sticking out into Lake Erie and zoomed in and thought it looked like an awesome summer place...but can't believe there aren't roads going out to a place listed as The Cottages. What is it? Is it only accessible by boat? I'm dying to know...is it all marshlands or something? Just wondering if anyone that's been there could tell me. It sounds like a place for me to go on a road trip...I live near Kingston, Ontario.

I practically lived there in the 70's and 80's and loved it! There is a road which will take you to the park and miles of beach and great swimming. There's lots of sandbanks so you can go out pretty far and still be standing in water up to your waist. There's also lots of things to do close by (well within driving distance) You have to check out Turkey Point! We had a trailer in St. Williams and could get to Long Point by boat too. There is another great place for boaters only but I can't think of the name at the moment. Hope this helps, I think it is an awsome place for day trips and camping too.

It sounds wonderful. I did find a website and saw some pictures. I'd love to see it.

BUT...I thought of another great idea...Sandbanks Provincial Park is just outside of Picton, Ont. and I've been there with my parents a few times..I love it there and since it's so much closer than Long Point, I may see if I can talk my DH into that camping trip. He doesn't understand camping...and wonders why we can just sit in the grass in our own backyard where we have access to the fridge and TV. Exactly the point, I say. He's from Los Angeles, so he doesn't get it. His idea of camping is Holiday Inn. I've also been camping up the Rideau Canal in a house boat up to Smith's Falls to buy chocolate at the Hershey Factory. I wasn't on Sugar BUsters then...

Anyhow...any other ideas for Canadian Camping would be great!!

In the summer, we go to Kincardine (pretty close to Owen Sound) but like your hubby, we stay in a motel. But the beach is great, lots of white sand and not too many people. I have seen camping grounds there also and cottage rentals too

The family is headed to Baie St Paul in Quebec, about an hour east of Quebec City this summer. It's an artsy community that turns into a bit of a french-artsy-hippy town every summer. I've never been, but my husband has, and he raves about it.

Default Ticks

It's pretty nice around Long point, but there is a pretty bad tick problem in that area, and Lyme disease. They warn you to stay out of the woods, and its really no fun if you have a dog. If you like a really long walk on a beach, though, it is very nice.

If you like bird watching, it's perfect at this time of year for that. I have had better bird watching days around there than at Point Pelee.
