Hello! My name is Charlene, I'm 33 years old, live in Aldergrove, B.C. and am Mom to Dakota (14) and Cheyenne (15 months).
I was "trying" to follow Weight Watchers but having a very very difficult time, far too many cravings and all for bad food (of course). I attend WW with a few girlfriends and one of them is also doing SB and convinced me to give it a try. I started yesterday, so far so good. I'm going to keep attending WW, I like the whole support thing and its a weekly nightout for me
I have in the past tried Atkins but just couldn't see myself doing it for "life". I also was a bit concerned about all the fat I was consuming, no one could convince me that eating that way was a good thing, perhaps a quick solution.
Anyhow I look forward to chit chatting here on the boards. Any words of wisdom from those following South Beach are more then welcome.
I would love to hear some breaky ideas that don't involve eggs and that are allowed on Phase 1. I'm okay with eggs right now but I can only do them for so long and then I get that "ick" feeling.
Welcome Charlene! You are in good company! Swimgirl lives in B.C., we have many, many Canadians here, and several people are doing an SBD/WW combo, including Ellis, BirdLady, and Mauvais. We're glad you're here!
My doctor recommended SBD and said that though what she had read showed that Atkins was only detrimental to the health of a small portion of people, it seemed rare that her patients were able to stick with it for the long haul. SBD had a much better track record of people who were willing to stick with it. She was right...I've done this for over a year now and am still very dedicated. I can totally see myself doing this for life.
I hate eggs, so I've always eaten other things. I'll try to find a thread with my post of other breakfast suggestions. I may even sticky it in the FAQ, since people ask about that a lot.
Make sure you read the book (it's really essential), don't cheat at all in Phase 1, and read the FAQ stickies. Oh, and be sure to visit the recipe forum...it has great things!
The only thing that I can really suggest for an alternative to an "eggy" breakfast would be doing something like cottage cheese and tomatoes. Or maybe using just an egg but mixing it up with good veggies that you like - mushrooms, peppers, onion or adding chopped up ham or turkey bacon. My biggest thing was finding something to eat that I didn't have to cook every morning because I just didn't have the time in the mornings! If supper was especially good, I might even have the leftovers or part of the leftovers for breakfast... it was a good break for me anyway!
I haven't looked at the breakfast recipes for P1 that are on the recipe forum, but you might also find some good ideas from the other chickies on there.
I've found this to be a wonderful, amazing group of great people with the best advice you could ask for. Hope you get as much out of this board as I have!!
Oh, and I also wanted to mention that a lot of the time you're not disgusted with the egg itself, but how you've made it and what you're having with it.
For me, I look at breakfast as a chore...kind of like filling the sink to start doing the dishes. I know I've got to get in protein and veggies to get the day started right. Even the tiniest steps can help tip the scale.
If you're sick of scrambled, try sunny side up! Or omelets, hardboiled, quiche, etc. And definitely mix up your sides. Don't always have bacon or turkey sausage. My favorite breakfast at Friendly's is 2 eggs over easy with WW dry Toast and a side of steamed brocolli!
Adia, I beg to differ! I'm not a fan, as you know. Still, I think you gave excellent tips here!!!
I posted all the information I could find on non-egg breakfasts in the FAQ...it's stuck so you should always be able to find it from now on.
Adia, I get you on the sink filling. Me too. I'm not a huge fan of breakfast, but I've read enough articles that tell you how important it is to know that I can't skip it and lose weight. So...
One of the girls on here even has the overnight slaw to curb her sweet tooth in the morning. You can truly have anything!
Thank you for the warm welcome and for all of your tips, ideas and links to recipes, I really appreciate it.
I was browsing the recipes lastnight and can't wait to try out some new things. Hopefully my daughter will cooperate and we can hit Safeway a bit later this afternoon....she's not much of a shopper shall we say
Hi Charlene! I'm new to the Beach too! I like it so far, but I do seem to eat alot of eggs. I have to go visit the menu page again. The B'fast Cheesecake sounds intriguing! Have a great week!
