Default Hi from Pennsylvania

I haven't figured out how all the gizmos work on this yet but I am new to this community. I have had a long term battle with my weight since I was in college and I will be 40 this year. I have tried numerous diets in the past, some with a great deal of success but have not been able to stick with any long term. About 2 months ago, I decided to start South Beach because several friends have done very well on low carb diets and been able to maintain it over the long haul but I actually wanted to avoid ketosis for personal reasons. Unfortunately, I was not able to lose any weight after my first 2 weeks on South Beach and ended up cutting my carbs so severely that I am now basically on Atkins and in ketosis and still struggling to lose weight. I do enjoy the fact that I no longer crave carbs and that I am not hungry but this is much harder than I anticipated. I am hoping that scale starts moving soon.

Hello there and how are you? Tired South Beach, drove my husband nuts about 1 week into phase 1, I cannot do with out carbs, now we both know it. Unfortunately once 40 comes around our metabalism takes a vacation. But don't give up and stick with what works. Good Luck and God Bless.

The scale finally moved. I lost another pound. I just hope it doesn't take 6 more weeks to lose another one!. Thanks for the encouragement.

Hello. Cute dog, is it a pet? Congratulations on the weight loss, it is so frustrating when you do everything right and the scale does not move, so hang in there and you will do it. God BLess.

Hello to you from Ohio! I turned 40 just over a month ago & I, too, am finding it hard to stick to anything long term....I'm a yo-yo dieter, but am hoping that joining this website for support (I just joined the other day) will help me along the way. I also tried the Atkins diet only to find myself feeling very tired & bored with it. So, I decided to try my own thing...just cut out the sugars & fats and add a little exercise to the program. If you are looking for a buddy for support, I'd like you to consider me. Gee, we might even be neighbors as I live on the border of PA! Keep working at it....you are going to have times where the scale doesn't budge for days, but keep in mind that, if you are doing what you need to do, the weight loss will show in time. Keep it up girlfriend! I'm rooting for you!

Petra: Where in Eastern PA do you live? I lived in Wayne (Delaware County) for 7 years.

I've been doing Atkins for nearly a year -- and agree that getting rid of carb cravings is great. I've done all of the rungs of the carb ladder in the ongoing weightloss phase of Atkins, so have been averaging about 45 to 50 net carbs a day. I'm still losing, but at a slower rate. Over the last couple of days I've cut my net carbs back to about 35 and increased my fat% (which is often a jumpstarter in Atkins) in order to see if it would speed up my weightloss. But, if I continue to lose .5 per week, I'm still happy because I do not feel the least bit deprived.

Good luck with your weightloss journey.
