Unhappy I need tons of motivation and a weightloss buddy to nag me constantly...

Hi all, this is the first time that I have posted a thread so please bare with me... I had some proffessional photo's taken of me on Friday and when I had a look at the results I nearly died - of shame and embarrasement. I have never been this big before. I have gained about 25kg in the last year and then found out I had PCOS, hence the weight gain!! Since November I have lost 6kg and am trying to keep to the GI diet, and it seems to be working but not fast enough - I started doing callenetics this weekend from an old video that I found, but need constant motivation and nagging to keep up with it. I have a really boring job and feel so dead by the time I get home all I want to do is sleep - is there any advice that anyone could give me to help my worthy cause. My goal is to loose 4kg by 2 April when it is my Big 30 Party !!!! Please help???

Thanx for the honest words of advice and support. The whole pound stone thing confuses me but the basics is 6 kg to a stone ( I think)!! I have just realised that my water consumption today has been very minimal so I am off to the water thingy to fill up my bottle!!!

Hi Lyds

Welcome to the board, you'll get lots of support and encouragement here, I wish you all the best. I'm doing a healthy eating and exercise type diet (making it up as I go along really), but a lot of it is based on the GI Diet which I did last year and enjoyed (but didn't lose much weight on unfortunately probably cos I kept making and eating the fruit crumble and cranberry and bran muffins - yummy ). But I think the principles are good, it's healthy eating and you're not starving yourself.

Take care

x

Hello Lyds39, I'm a kilo girl as well, but I put pounds on here, I weigh (gulp) 110 kilos. I've lost 10 since 04/01/2005 and I follow a low GI diet, with plenty of exercise. A good healthy weight loss takes time, and it isn't really worth losing more than a kilo a week. Any more than that is fluid or lean body mass. It's frustrating, especially when you hear of massive weight losses in a week, and the lose 7 pound in a week stories, but the slow way is safest and long lasting.

Hang in there chicken. I don't have a buddy so if you want one, here I is!!!!

GI is the glycaemic index. All foods are measured against glucose, which has a GI of 100. It's a measure of how quickly the body converts what you eat into insulin The theory goes that the more high GI foods you consume (white bread, cakes etc) the harder your poor old pancreas has to work, and ends up converting what it doesn't use into fat. Put simply it teaches most of the stuff we already knew, that highly processed, refined carbs are a problem, all foods in balance are fine, etc and to have a healthy diet you need to concentrate on good quality carbs, plenty of high quality protein, and fruits and vegetables. There are some really good books out there with low GI principles. One of the interesting things it is the whole meal that you look at in terms of GI foods. So tonight for example I had a bagel, which is medium with a grilled chicken breast, mushroom, courgette and peppers, all medium and low foods, so the overall profile is low.

The beauty of eating low GI is that you don't have the peaks and troughs in your blood sugar and are more unlikely to demolish a packet of Jaffa cakes at 4 in the afternoon (but not totally immune) I have found I have had a lot more energy and my moods have certainly improved, just ask the DH.

Unfortunately, the GI diet does not feature young men in 50's US Army uniforms, but if you find some, you have to share!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad you asked Toot as I was going to ask the same thing, might try a pick up some info when I'm in teh UK this weekend, something to stop the small binges is good. I ate a whole pack of Jaffas last week 0 to 12 in 5 mins. Doh!
I'm also planning a half marathon this year, kyrakee its a good goal to have, slow but sure is the best way.
Although I would run a lot quicker if I was following one of those GIs

Well done on the exercise, that's where I'm really trying to improve - and don't worry about the cookies, no-one's perfect. Put it behind and carry on being good for the rest of the day

well done...callanetics is a painful gruelling form of torture
3 small cookies is better than a bag of lovely smarties cookies from asda!
yvonee here in the uk you now get small(crisp pkt size) bags of mini jaffas, stock up when your here then you can have a wee bag a day without feeling like a grunter..........i dont like jaffas.........ginger biscuits is my thing in fact anything with ginger in it id stuff down like it was going out of fashion, home made ginger cake is the worst.
has anyone tried they ryvita minis....if so are they any good?

Yuk, ginger!!!!!!!!! It is one of things I have tried but just cant get myself to like!! Now the Ryvita Mini's MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMyummy!!!!!!!!!! But I am not too sure what they are on the GI thingy's.

Torture - you don't know it hurts to yawn, sit talk anything - ooooooouuuuuuuch!!!!!!! but sometimes it hurts to get thin and beautiful - well that is what I tell myself.

My goal is to fit into my skinny jeans by 2nd April and if I keep up with the whole torture than hopefully it will be 2nd April 2005 and not 2006!!!
