I'm officially straight!
Well, according to my six year old son, anyway. Before I had my surgery, Wesley and I were watching tv together. A commercial came on about a couple of little boys who where playing basketball in their driveway. Their mom came swooping in, took the basketball, and did a slam dunk. I don't know what the commercial was about, I think it was one of those eat more meat ads. Anyway, right after she made the shot, Wes looked at me and said, "I've never seen a mom do something like that. I bet that's not real". So, I explained to him that yes, there are a lot of mommies that do stuff like that. And asked him if he thought that it was something he thinks I should do. He looked at me and said, "No, mom you're too bumpy (not to be confused with dumpy) to do something like that. She's really straight, she can probably do stuff like that really easy" Meaning that I am overweight (bumpy) and she is skinny (straight). He just didn't know how to put it into words. We don't use derogatory words about overweight people in our house. Really we don't talk about people's size at all. I thought it was funny, it totally didn't hurt my feelings because after all I was a very long way from being straight.
Last night after I got off work, I was in the kitchen (cooking) wearing my scrub pants and the teeshirt that I wear under my scrub top. I usually wear loose fitting shirts, but this shirt is more fitted. Wesley came into the kitchen and said, "Wow mom you look smaller". So of course I thanked him and said I have lost some weight, and told me that it made me feel good that he noticed. Then he said, "That's cool mom; you're really straight, now". I have to say that I have never been more proud to be "Straight" in my life. Okay, I know I'm still quite a way from really being straight, but it sure made me feel good to know that he thinks I am. It's one thing when adults notice that you've lost weight, but another thing all together when a little kid notices. Kids don't usually notice stuff like this. So now that I'm "straight", I guess I'm going to have to practice up on those dunk shots :lol So my plateau that I'm having right now, isn't bothering me at all anymore. He really made my year!
I told Allen what Wes had said, and at first he just cracked up about the "straight" thing. Leave it to a man to put that whole gay/straight thing into play. It was never something that I even thought about. I had to explain to him what Wesley meant by it. Men.....Sheesh!
