Default For those who use a stationary bike....

how many miles a day do you ride on it? I started doing between 10-15 miles a day on it. Is this enough? I plan on adding a few work out tapes to my routine a week also. I am just wondering what the "norm" is on the stationary bike. Thanks!

I measure my biking in time rather than miles... In the past when I was up to 45 min./day, I was covering 10-12 miles during that time. I think it's all tied up with what else you're doing, how fit you are to start with, etc. Your exercise goals should be what work for you--if you're losing weight and getting more fit with what you're doing, that's great. And keep in mind, too, that strength and flexibility are areas you might want to spend time on: cardio's great, but it's not everything our bodies need.

I just started working out again this week. I am 249 lbs roughly, and have never had much stamina. I am not sure how far I could go, but today I went 4 miles, which is the most I have done because I just never push myself hard enough. I believe right now the most I could do is 7 miles. I do a 5 minute mile on the bike.

I do not usually look at the miles. I watch my speed, time, and the calories burned. Today my speed was between 12-14 (forgot unit) and rode for 50mins which gave me a calore burn of 526.

I go by minutes, speed and heart rate. I go on my recumbent bike for 20 minutes, treadmill 20 minutes, ab tape and bunn an thigh roller. I call it the 20/20/20 plan....
For me a good bike time is 20 to 45 minutes, but never over 60....I find the switching around makes the time go by faster too.

Using the stationary bike for me really is a matter of intensity because I know I can sit there for an hour pedaling at an easy rate and not really work up a sweat. I think in 20 minutes I cover 8miles or so. Going 10-15 miles per day is great but make sure you aren't cheating yourself by working out at a too-low intensity.

lizzbabe-- I usually peddle between 15 and 16 mph, 14 if I am really trired. Is that fast enough to get a decent workout? I also have added a work out video that uses weights once a week and Walk Away the Pounds 1 mile video 1-2 times a week.
