A year ago I went on depression medicine and put back on 50lbs. I am having a very hard time staying focus on a diet. Can any one offer me any help

Hi Kaybear,

Boy do I know how you feel. I lost 150 lbs and after the death of my sister, I gained back 80 This happened 6 years ago and I'm still having problems staying focused.

The only thing I can suggest is keep talking, get your feeling out, write it down if you have to. Find a plan and keep trying, don't ever give up.

I would also suggest finding a board, WW or right here, the depression board and post on the daily threads. Make friends and I honestly believe it will help.

I think for me is even though I am married and have a big family, I feel lonely ever since my sister left. I feel very negelected and I don't know how to deal with it. I also feel there is alot of other things as well.

Anyway I'm so glad your here and please come post on the daily threads.

HUGS, Leenie

Default You're not alone

I'm new here - just joined tody, and when I found your posts I knew it could have been mine. I lost 90 lbs. in 2002, then needed a hysterectomy. My husband's step-father and mother (who lived on our property with us) passed away within 5 months of each other. I've regained about 60 of the pounds I lost and have started on medication for the depression that I feel. I sure don't have the answers yet, but wanted you to know there are others out there who are starting over again. You aren't alone! I think the fact that you are searching for a way to deal with the weight is positive in itself.

Hi Sandi glad your here with us. WOW, that is tragic of your inlaws to pass like that...how very sad. It is really amazing how situations in our lives can change us drastically, but, I try to keep positive and think life can be ALOT worse (for me that is).

Julie, WW is a wonderful plan, I'm glad your choosing it. Some times a diet alone isn't the key, I hope you can find the emotional support you need. 3FC's is a wonderful place. Glad your here too

question........
if there are things in your life contributing to your depression and you cannot do anything to change them.... how can you make a positive move like weight loss? when food is all there is that brings comfort even though it brings guilt as well what do you do? I think I'm at the end of my rope and its getting harder and harder to hang on.

Tansea thats a great question. I'm not sure how to answer that. I would think one has to work on one thing at a time. With depression there is medication to help. Now with the habbit of over eating thats a hard thing. I too find that food is my only way out, my comfort, my friend (evil friend at that), so what I am trying to do it to find other things that will give me comfort without the guilt. Trying to steer your way from food is hard, at least for me it is.... its an addiction as well. So for my food addiction / comfort this is what I'm going to try/continue in 2005 (not in any particular order, just in general):

1. Focus on something else when the thought of food comes a knockin
2. Stay here at 3FC's and continue to get support
3. Listen to my body and what makes me turn into the beast I so despise (eating wise that is).

There are more, but you get the picture.

Your not alone Tansea, there are millions of us out there that feel like we are at the end of our rope.

Mostly..... DON'T EVER GIVE UP !! KEEP HANGING ON !!

Hope you can join in on the daily threads for the friendship and support you need. We'd love to see you there.

Hugs Leenie
