Default Yourself! Fitness

Has anyone tried this approach?

Yourself! Fitness is an XBox "game" in which you get a personal a trainer(Maya) who helps you to work out!!

I got the game 3 days ago, and today was my 3rd solid day of working out! (I never have gotten passed day 2 before!!)

This looks very cool! I have small kids and can't always get out the door to exercise, and exercise videos become monotonous. This is actually brilliant! Did you order yours online or did you find it at a store?

I got mine at Circuit City. It was $29.99 although I think you can order from the site itself or probably even amazon and ebay

Honestly it's great! I just finished "Yoga" for the first time... and I'm actually looking forward to working out tomorrow!! It's an amazing feeling, one I've never really felt before!

Can you offer any other information on the product? I would like to get it but I want to know like what kind of workouts it offers, can you customize the workouts themselves? Does it have like journaling software included? I would probably just buy an xbox and the game cuz I don't want to workout in front of the computer lol. Any details would be awesome! Thanks!!

*Whimper* Of course they couldn't have made this for PS2 as well...

EDIT: Nevermind I found this on the websites message boards.

"We are currently developing the PlayStation 2 version and should have it on the market in January... just in time for your new year's resolutions!" - Maya

So those of you who have a PS2 and don't want to have to work out in front of the computer, hang tight, it's coming

That's good too, I don't exactly have the $35 the site is asking for right now.

You start out doing an evaluation of sorts, first you take your resting heart rate, then you do 2 minutes of jumping jacks, then your elevated heart rate, squats, crunches and pushups (how many can you comfortably do?) and a stretching exercise. From this "Maya" tailors a workout for you (Taking your evaluation plus your current weight) and suggests an area to work on (Weightloss, Toning etc) and then she schedules you work out times (She suggested 5 days a week, 15 minutes a day for me because I'm so out of shape) and then you work out. After 10 workout (so I'm told) you re do the evaluation and get new goals.

At the beginning of each workout you are asked what equiptment you have (weights, step, ball, heart monitor) and then they use that in your workout if you have it! (I don't)

The workout themself has about 5 minutes of warm up (normal for what you'd find on an exercise tape) and then the rest is a combination of cardio/strength (squats) and of course a cool down.

During the workout she asks you how you are feeling (If the workout is Hard, Just Right or Easy) and then tailors it to your needs.

It also has a Yoga workout (20 minutes) and a meal plan!!

Cool, that's what I was wondering. I spent about 40 minutes browsing that site yesterday, and went through all of the free trial videos. I don't have a body ball though and was wondering if you can customize based on what you do have. I've been thinking of getting one though.

Wow! I got this yesterday, worked out, and I am sore today! I have been running about 3-4 miles a day for the past few months and thought I was in fairly good shape...I obviously have a LOT of room for improvement. (I am also a VERY slow runner and it has been hard for me to push myself out of my confort zone with running.) The exercises are tailored for the equipment you have. My DH tried it first and said he had hand weights. We do, but they are 15 lbs, and a bit heavy for use with the disc. So, I set up my profile stating I didn't have handweights, and my workout did not call for them and was quite different from his. It is not a perfect program, but it is very cool. I have a very small window of opportunity for exercise, due to kids, work, and it getting dark around 5 pm. Now I can workout during nap times, or after dark (I am too much of a weenie to run at night alone).
The meal plans look interesting also. There is not any guidance on the disc for target calories for weight loss that I have found. THey suggest you see a health care provider or registered dietician for that, but you can choose menus based on the calorie range you select. I have been on a plateau since October, so I think this is exactly what I need to mix it up a little bit and jump start those next 25 pounds.

Update From Maya for those wanting the PS2 version:

"Also, due to popular demand, we are pre-selling the PlayStation 2 version of the program (click 'order now' on the top banner) for those of you that would like to be first in queue to have the highly anticipated title in early February. We will be extending the current 'free domestic shipping' promotion to orders received this year."

Ok, if you preorder before the end of the year you get free shipping or so I understand. However the game has been pushed to Feb, which sucks.

She also said the PC version will be available in Nordstrom and Best Buy stores.
