Hi Rebel!!
Well, DH and I have only been doing the SBD for 6 weeks now, but I talked to my cardio Dr first while I was reading the book. He feels that it is the best diet out there, #1 for the pure science of it and then #2, his patients feedback. He says that they all say that it is a diet that they can live with, that its comfortable, easy and they are not hungry, so they can stay with it.
I could understand your Dr.'s concern if phase 1 went on for a real long time, but it's only 2 wks. You can definetly live with out the fruit for 2wks.
The whole point of the first phase is to reset your system. To stop your cravings, and most importantly to get your blood sugar and isulin levels corrected. So it is real important that you don't eat any sugars, even the healthy ones like fruit. No breads, rice, potatoes and Ect.
Like I said it's only 2 weeks. Then you can add your fresh fruit and some whole wheat pasta, just remember to add slowly, I find that my hubby has been able to add in more than me. He can have whole grain ceral in AM then wheat pasta at night. I can't. I am finding that I am doing best if I only have 1 serving a day, and then, not even each day. So if I have fruit, I dont have anything else in the fruit/whole grains family that day...when I did I tended to have the "Muchies" later that night.
I have been very successful, I have lost 30lbs in the past 6wks.
So my vote would be to not modify it regarding the fruit.
Hey, do you have the book? I just LOVED the desert they have listed for the first phase, Its part skim ricotta, with spenda(or equal, ect) and vanilla, there is also one with Cocoa, and some with lemon &/or lime zests. I just loved the vanilla one!!!!!!!!
Good luck! Keep us informed with how you're doing!
