Hi, my name's Kristin and I'm from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. My highest weight was 351 and I'm probably somewhere around 320, I was down to 312 but started a battle with depression and put on a few pounds -- I haven't been on a scale in a few weeks though.
I have heard a lot about South Beach and my personal trainer at the gym is trying to get me to cut back on the carbs which I was successful with until I got sick and I'm having a hard time getting back into. I purchased the Book yesterday and have read the first couple of chapters today. I'm looking forward to starting, I plan to go shopping tomorrow and have already made a list.
I'm really scared though -- I've done just about every diet known to man, I lost 25 pounds this last round of Weight Watchers but I just couldn't keep going, then the gym helped me with another 13 and I love the gym but I need it to start coming off a little faster or I lose hope (13 pounds in 6 months). Any advice would be completely welcomed and appreciated!
Welcome to the Beach, Kristin! You will find lots of support and information here. Take a look at the Frequently Asked Questions and the recipes. The book is a great help and you will find that planning is one of the most important things on South Beach. If you make sure you have plenty of food that is OP (On Plan) then you are less likely to choose something that you shouldn't.
A Windy Winnipegger!! Welcome, Kristin!!
Come and post a lot... this is a GREAT site!! And feel free to join us on the daily thread, too!
The daily (for today) is here: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44686
Hey Kristin! I'm a fellow Winnipeger! Only I sold out and moved to BC where the winters are warmer. I am also planning to start South Beach, however I am in the process of cutting back on my sugar intake (mainly pop) so that I don't get withdrawl, which is really hard on me, and since I never get more than a day off in a row, I can't afford time to stay home. Don't think of South Beach as a diet so much as a new way of eating, weight loss is a lifestyle change (just by cutting back on pop I've lost 6 pounds in 2 weeks!).
Thanks everyone! I went grocery shopping today and I don't think I've ever bought so many fresh veggies in my life!! I suppose that may be partially how I got this fat in the first place. I bought myself little star stickers to put in my day planner every day that I stay OP and a note book with a clasp to record my weight and measurements. I "officially" start tomorrow -- I'm on nights for this week then start 2 weeks of days after that. Even though it's not my scheduled weigh in/meaurement day on Tuesday when I see my personal trainer, I'm going to ask her to help me so that I can sort of have an official jumping off spot. As a "last supper" I ordered pizza -- which I know I will be able to enjoy again and instead of diet pepsi they sent regular, I'm on a bit of a sugar high. SwimGirl, I'm jealous of the 6 pounds from just the pop alone -- Imagine how GREAT you're going to do OP!
Again thanks for the encouragement, I'm really looking forward to the support and fellowship on this board!
My daughter-in-law is from Winnipeg, too. A spent quite a bit of time in Manitoba when I was growing up. My dad is from Brandon.
I did weight watchers before SBD, Also, I was very disciplined with it, and consequently lost all the weight that I wanted. On reflection, though, I discovered, that I was hungry all the time. When my dr. advised me to cut carbs, SBD was ideal for me. You can do this...right along with the rest of us.
