Question How much water is too much?

I know we should be drinking 64 oz of water a day, but what is the maximum amount of water an individual can drink?

I was reading online and searching for an answer and I came across many things that were related (like too much water depleting sodium in the body, and the small probability of non athletes getting water intoxication) but no answer.

Does anyone know?

Default What little I know....

It's difficult to get too much water, if you are eating healthy. The first time I even heard about water intoxication was when I was a student nurse and we had to do a psychiatric rotation. There was a guy that was constantly monitored because he had tried to commit suicide before by drinking too much water. It was really bizarre.

In the summer, if you are exercising, if you are trying to lose weight you need water.

I don't know of a maximum, but a general rule I learned along the way and have applied is that if you are trying to lose weight you should aim for half your body weight in water ounces.

So for me at about 190 pounds, I should aim for at least 95 oz a day. I probably drink about 128oz now. But I only drink water and always have.

I am not a doctor, so take my advice for what it worth.

Thanx gals.

I really only drink water throughout the day, and I drink a lot! I just was a little worried when I came across an article on water intoxication. But even though I probably drink over 100 oz a day I don't think I am near being intoxicated.

The people who need to worry about water intoxication are those who exercise a lot, marathon runners, triathalone athletes, those who do an exessive amount of work and sweat a lot. If they only replace their liquids with water, they develop an electolyte imbalance.

Normal healthy, averave exercising people don't really need to worry about it.
