Default BBQ foods on SBD phase 2

I am going away for the week camping and need some easy and simple things to cook. I am not going to be millitant as I am on vacation, but i do not want to come back with 5 pound on me either.

Would a regular BBQ like KC Masterpiece or Kraft be okay if I used it sparingly on my food? Where we camp the peice of things are outragous and I can imagine how much Carb control BBQ sauce would be.

I am planning on buying some of the dreamfields pasta to take up with me for spaghetti dinner and the rest I plan on BBQ foods.

Any ideas on how I can stay on while I camp beside taping my mouth shut?

I would think you could get away without any BBQ sauce and still eat pretty well, unless ribs are on the menu. BBQ chicken plain is a wee bit boring, but survivable. Hamburgers without a bun work well. If you are going to use BBQ sauce, I would recommend putting a little on your plate and dipping in it, rather than eating it cooked on the food. That way you control how much you really eat.

Some other ideas if you are bringing your own cooler. Hard boil some eggs before leaving, if they crack its no big deal but then you have some ready made protein. I would also pack your own lunch meat for fast lunches. That way you have the lower fat lower card option available.

But most importantly, drink drink drink drink your water. That is your BEST defense. It is really easy not to drink when away and without it, you will notice a difference.

Have fun!!

I think that most of the bbq sauces have a lot of sugar. Maybe if you have time, you could whip up a sb friendly bbq sauce. I found this doing a google search:

http://wb2.trb.com/news/kwgn-sugar-f...,2492775.story
1 8 oz can tomato sauce, 1/2 cup cider vinegar, 2 tbsp white vinegar, 2 tbsp liquid smoke, 3 tbsp chili powder, 1 tbsp garlic powder, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, 1 tbsp sweetener, like Splenda or Equal (optional, and to taste)

Combine all ingredients at least 1/2 hour before using.

This is enough sauce for 1-2 racks of baby-back pork ribs. Double the recipe as needed. If the ribs are very thick, cut the racks in half and boil them in a stockpot for 20 minutes before BBQ-ing.

Coat ribs with sauce, and grill. Add more sauce as you turn the ribs. Serve with additional sauce if desired. Enjoy!!

edited to add: oops, I didn't read that part. Don't use ribs, really high in fat, use it on a nice chicken breast or something leaner.

Sugar Free Barbecue Sauce
1 sm. onion, minced
1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
2 c. water
1/4 c. wine vinegar
1/4 c. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. salt (optional)
2 tsp. paprika
2 tsp. chili powder
1 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. cloves

Combine all ingredients; bring to full boil. Simmer 20 minutes.

Grilled vegetables are great, you can take a bag of sliced vegetables or make vegetable kabobs and have them ready for grilling. Maybe mix in some shrimp or scallops or chicken breast. They are tasty and quite filling and you get the grilled flavor without the ton of calories of most bbq.

Have you checked the ingredient list on the dreamfields pasta? I know I looked at it in the store and didn't buy it for some reason. I buy Hodgson Mills which is just 100% whole wheat. Maybe I am remembering it wrong?

Lawry's makes a really great BBQ sauce, called Carb One. Its low in sugar and tastes wonderful. I use it one or twice a week and it hasn't affected my weight loss. Also, I would suggest eating grilled chicken, seasoned with a tiny bit of soy sauce, garlic salt, and (if you can find it) Emeril's Original Seasoning. It gives the chicken a great flavor so you don't really need BBQ sauce. Also, bringing sliced veggies would be a good idea, so you have something to munch on.

No, I read that it had 5grams of Net Carbs per servng and I think it was one less than Atkins pasta and almost $2 less expensive. Muellers has a reduced Carb Pasta as well, but 13 net grams per serving . It is the cheapest, but too many carbs for me.

I never thought about making kababs and grilling them.

Thanks for the recipes, I am going to try one tonight as I am grilling up some chicken. I am going to stick to meats and veggies and tons of water. ( as much as I can)

Chilichick, the amount of carbs in the pasta does NOT matter. We are not counting carbs, we are eating good, complex sources of carbs. So, choose from the wide variety of whole grain pastas from whole wheat to spelt and in between. Okay?

As to BBQ sauce, use a low sugar (don't worry about carbs) version or make your own with a sweetener. And since mose BBQ meats are not lean, choose one that is. Use boneless, skinless chicken breasts, london broil, sirloin, etc. You can also have one meal of tofu hot dogs (they actually taste very good!), if you want, for that real campfire feeling!
