Default Is it alright?

I've been on the South Beach Diet for about 5 days now but have cheated 3-4 times due to feeling REALLY ill. I would like to get down to my target weight of 119lbs from 133lbs before I start Phase 2. Should I just keep doing the first phase till i hit that weight? Also, is it okay to not follow the plan, just dish up my own recipies (made a lovely tomato soup earlier) while following the Foods to Enjoy list, and such? As well as that, should I lay of exercising every day like I do for 50 minutes until I get down to my target weight? Or just do the arobic 50 min video (dance, tone, box, yoga, warm up) a few times and week, and how many?

I'd really appriciate if someone answered these burning questions hehe
Thanks for your help! x

It is very important not to cheat in Phase 1. Reducing your exercise until you are on phase 2 will help how you are feeling. Make sure you are getting enough carbs by eating foods like legumes.

I personally don't think it is reasonable for you to expect to lose 7 pounds during Phase 1 when your weight is so low to begin with. The ones who lose the higher amounts of weight are the ones who have a lot more to lose. I think you would be better off switching to Phase 2 at the end of the standard 2 weeks although you might need to go longer depending on whether your cheating has caused the cravings to remain.

You do not need to follow the menus in the book but should feel free to make up your own menus using the list of foods if you like. Many of us have done that. Hope this helps.

Cobalt_skies, may I ask what it is that made you choose those goals? I think numbers are not really important. What is important is that you feel comfortable in your clothes and that you have the energy and health to be happy. At your age and weight, you probably shouldn't be doing a diet like this, but should try doing small things first. Like cutting back on snacking, taking smaller portions of food, and getting more exercise.

I understand that you are 13. Kids NEED carbs. Our bodies need different things at different stages in our lives. This could explain why you feel so ill while following this diet.

I would suggest you keep a food log. Write down everything you eat. Post it here and we can all take a look and see if there are any suggestions that might help you out. Also keep a log of your exercise, since that helps!

You should probably ask your family doctor, too, because they may have a diet plan designed for your age and needs that would work better for you
