Default Is anyone into low fat, high carb way of life, and can give me a kick start.

I'm trying to lose 45lbs I weigh 170 now any just feel soo drained. no energy, so achey, unsexy. I'm a 33y old stay a homemom (almost no longer needed) both teenagers & housewife married 17 years (my husband is great supports every thing I do or don't do) never has a negitive thing to say. Even if you can tell I did nothing except eat bon-bons all day. (REALLY TRYING TO get out of the rut) I can sence he is missing that 125 lb lady I once was.

goal is 125. I did myself up a program on microsoft excel that tracks my food I eat a day, counts down on my 3 -24oz. water. I also did a 7 + 31 day average. I trying to stay 1200 calories less then 10% from fat. I keep not writing things. Also I love chinese and can't find any calorie counts on the food I always get the "light food" at least in my mind I GET SHRIMP W/ CHINESE VEG. or shrimp & Broccoli maybe beef sticks thats all I crave.
does anyone know a good site on these calories?

I lost 50 pound started in 97 and got down to 125lb. BUT WHEN I was tring to level out to calories to stay at that weight something happened. before I knew it here I'm am again 170. I can remember much on how I lost it to do it again except I wrote everything I eat. I was on a low fat diet. over exercised I have a treadmill I use to walk 4 miles in an hour. I ot sick and couldn't walk and fell out of my route.

I incurage I found this site I hope I can get some help. and made some friends. to kick me in shape. it would be nice to I have to answer to someone If I did it or not write my cal for that day.

I just started the GI Diet. It's based on the glycemic index. A lot of similarities with South Beach and Sugar Busters but a few key differences. You should read the book if you can get your hands on it. I did lo carb for about a year and a half and for me it through a lot of my blood chemistry and vitamins off track. I made a decision to eat healthy and let the weight come off at its own pace. Of course I still want it all off now but the sensible side of me looks back on how far I've come but also that my health is not worth taking the weight off quicker. The GI Diet has a lot of flexibility to it in that if you are out you can still manage without feeling like you're ordering the same things. The way it works is like a traffic light and categorizes foods based on the colours of traffic and how friendly they are to the dieter. (Red foods are to be avoided, amber in moderation and green can be enjoyed for the most part in unlimited quantities - of course with a few choices being limited as well as not being excessive). I have been on it 3 days now and I have made the decision not to weigh myself until a few weeks from now so that I can give it a chance to work and see what I lose. Lo carb also made me forget what to eat and when I came off it I had no clue what I liked to eat anymore. I'm getting to know my veggies and high fibre foods again. Feel free to email me if you would like anymore info or support.

Hi there. I am with you on the lower fat diet. I tried Atkins and was promptly taken off of it when my blood sugar levels nearly bottomed out one day. (Not that there is anything wrong with the low carb diets - my doctor was on it at the time I had my event - it just doesn't work for all people)
I lost nearly 100 pounds right out of high school using a low fat diet. Sadly I put it back on about 10 years later and that's what I'm trying to get rid of now.

Because of this I have a newfound appreciation for my George Forman grill. God Bless you GF!
I think the reason a lot of people gain the weight back from using a low fat diet is because they cut too much fat from their diets. Your body craves and NEEDS some fat. Many of our vitamins are fat soluable, and if you don't get enough fat you can't absorb them...this causes your body to crave fat. Make sure you do get some healthy fat in your diet...olive oil, avacados, almonds...etc.
Good luck! I'll post some more hints as they occur to me.

Low fat is the way to go ...I too tried Atkins and was disgusted with the way I felt, sick nauseated ..they call it "induction flu" I call it a bad way of living. There is also this strange mentality of following "The Dr" ...anyway I will not bash it anymore "some of my best friends are doing it" ....physiological evidence is in favor of low fat...I am reading "The Abs Diet" and it is a sound low fat nutritional plan...I wish it was in paper back and then I could rec people read it but it is too $$$ for most of the patients I come in contact with.....it is healthy the focus is exercise, low fat and complex carbs...balance and eating frequently....so I am going to try the six week plan and see what happens...there is no need for "special foods" the grocery list provided fills all the food groups and is looking very good!....I wish you luck and just wade past the low carb stuff and you will find plenty of naturally low fat foods...usually around the edge of the grocery store...

Oh yeah, Kidz just reminded me. It seems so simple but the main thing to consider is shopping the perimeter of the grocery store for the majority of your food, and getting limited things from the aisles.
I limited how much money I would spend at the grocery store...I would use a calculator to see how much I had spent and couldn't go in the aisles unless I had gotten all I needed from the perimeter. If I was out of money by the time I was done with the perimeter I just couldn't get what was on the aisles...I soon realized I rarely missed anything when I was preparing my meals. Not only did it help me stay on my diet, but it saved me a ton of money as well.

Thanks all of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never heard of the GI diet this sound intresting I'm checking into it now

I also forgot I did cut the low carbs last time. No more soda. (I haven't even been adding them to my cal intake) after reading yesterday all of your post I took a look at my "no count list" I did think I wrote "drinks" last time. and still don't but I didn't drink soda as much last time, as I did yesterday -so no more free foods- I even almost has a milk shake with the husband saying "it a drink" you all woke me up. I can THANK you enought!!!!!!!!!

Thanks you!!

please remind me how much I may lose a week on a low fat high complex carb diet?
I was thinking I lost about 3 lb a week to start then after a month or 2 It went down to only like 1lb a week????
also remember when I got to 135lb I was only needing 4 hour of sleep a night and was full of so much energy all the time. it only lasted about 2 months til I got down to 130Lb - 125lb or is 135lb my prefect weight?

I love my carbs.
What are complex????
potatoes - rice - breads (white & whole grains?) - egg noodles? where do tomatoes fall?
what kind of vegetables aren't complex or are they all?? what am I forgetting

I know when I eat meat it was either fish , chicken breast (LOTS) (now seems to be a bit drier then I remember), shrimp (lots of shrimp) I love shrimp boiled or fried in pam spray with chinese type veg over rice doesn't even need any sauce.
spagetti aslo is one of my favorite foods the sause I like is health choice is fat free and it taste pretty good But I LOVE graded cheese and can't find the fat free I use to eat. I use to make me something different for the rest of the family. I started that again.

any one know a company that makes fat free graded cheese???

Thanks again!!!!!!!

Hi Sally, Welcome!

I track my calories on at www.fitday.com.... there is also www.calorie-count.com...

There is one thing I have discovered about maintaining, it isn't much different than loosing the weight... I still have to exercise, watch my calories and food intake every single day!!

We have a maintainers forum here also... Meg is the moderator she's an awesome lady she's lost 135# and has kept it off now for 2 years... But you don't have to be a maintainer to join in the conversation....
