Question Help Me Get My Head Around This!....

Okay, I'm really trying to understand this SBD-thing...I posted a couple of days ago asking about sugar free ice cream, and know now it's not allowed (I can't believe how many times I've read those food lists, and the little details still slip by me! ). What I'm wondering is: Why is sugar free pudding allowed but not sugar free ice cream? I'm not debating it at all, I'm just trying to get my head around the "rules" so I can have something to go by besides rote memory of every detail of the food lists....Both are dairy-based, both have artificial sweeteners, and comparable calories (70-100 per half cup).

I guess it would just be comforting for me to have a guideline so it all becomes "second nature." Truth is, I think the s/f ice cream was in fact giving me cravings, and I gained a bit...but I didn't even "recognize" the cravings, because they used to be so much a part of my life it was easy to just fall back into them... But since I haven't had it for a day and a half, I feel more "stable" again...

Thanks for your wisdom, ideas, and experiences.

Where does it say sf/ff puddings are OK? Definitely not in the Guide. Perhaps you could list all the exact ingredients so we can critique.
Note that I am not doing my lecture on Frankenfoods!

It's listed in the phase 2 plan under miscellaneous as long as it's FF, but since it's listed with chocolate and red wine so I am assuming it's very limited.

Hi Ruth,

It said in the book in the foods you can add for phase 2!

Take care!

Yes, s/f pudding is in the book, under P2 foods you may reintroduce, under the "Miscellaneous" heading. Certainly you don't want to overindulge, but the "sparingly" notation is listed for chocolate, not for wine or s/f pudding. It's also listed on the food list for P2 on the Prevention SBD website.

Does anyone know, then, is the pudding meant to be part of the 75 cal/day of sweets? That would mean 1/2 cup max.

I hope whatever future editions of the book that come out will be more user-friendly in this way. I find it hard to maneuver through the pages to find the info I need, at times.

Thanks for any further input anyone has!

Yes, Jojo... the puddings would be included in the 75 calories per day. DH and I often had them on Phase II.

hey the vanilla pudding you make from the box is only 25 calories per 1/2 cup and its wonderful mixed with your favorite berry. Make sure you are using sf/ff though you have to make it it is not a pre made cup. I have not checked out the other flavors caloric intake i am only introducing one flavor at a time. I seperate them into the small 1/2 cup zip lock bowls and put them away so i dont over indulge. Maybe try freezing them and it will satify your craving for ice cream. As for why one is and one is not allowed i dont have a clue. I t did say in the book after the section call "hellow bread" that the sugar free and lowfat are whorse thatn the real thing though. just dont assume that because it's says sf it is ok. be inventive with what is allowed.

That whole ice cream thing is beyond me. The low fat icecreams available here are actually lower in fat and sugar than the vanilla yogurt which is allowed, and they are lower in calories than the ricotta deserts. I was having a small scoop of f/f s/f icecream with weight watchers jelly/jello but haven't bought any for ages.

Default vanilla pudding...

Hey, melissaK,

If you are using the same Jello brand ff vanilla I have, it's 25 calories unprepared, but it's the same as chocolate with the ff milk added, i.e., 1/2 c. = 70 cal.

Let me know if it's a different brand, though, I'm curious if there is one that low out there! Jello is the only brand available in my area.

Well i will not expect much loss this week i have had a half cup every day this week on top of 1-2 sf jello i was so optimistic this week too.

melissaK--

I'm sorry, I hope I didn't discourage you! 1/2 cup pudding every day should be fine, don't you think? The s/f jello is only 10 cal/1/2 cup, I think, so that's not bad...

Of course, I AM the Queen of the Slow, Methodical Losers, so you probably shouldn't listen to me.

(You're right though--who the heck eats dry pudding--yuck!).
