Well, I started SBD today phase I and lasted all of 2 hours. I had for breakfast an omelet: 2 eggs, 1 sl. canadian bacon, 1 oz. lite chedder cheese and an hour later I was already feeling like my blood sugar was low. I was starting to shake and get weak and lightheaded. Did anyone else have this problem on phase I? I'm thinking I need to just do phase II for awhile until I get my system back on track.
I know the SBD is supposed to fix hypoglycemia, but I would have to be eating every hour to stick with phase I. Did anyone else here skip phase I?
I was hoping if I ate whole grains and fruits only for awhile no refined carbs. my hypo. symptoms will go away.
JoAnn, it's not uncommon to feel that way for a couple of days on Phase I. However, if it's really bad for you, talk to your doctor about it.
I always try to have some veggies with my breakfast.
Sounds like starting with Phase II would be a good idea for you.
I am hypoglycemic and felt really low for the first couple of days, but it got better. I ate yogurt and lots of veggies during phase 1 and I think that's what helped. I admit, it got easier when I got to phase II. Perhaps talk to your doc, you might find starting at phase 2 is better for you.
This was recently addressed on the South Beach website, although it was a question asked by someone in Phase 2, it still applies in all phases.
Since you are just starting Phase 1, the reasons of allowing high GI carbs back into your diet or adding low GI carbs too quickly dont fit here.
The other reasons given were you're not eating enough at mealtimes, or you're not eating regular snacks. Both are very important!
Looking at the breakfast you posted, you had all protein. If you add some veggies in, they contain the good carbs as well as soluable fibre which slows digestion, fills you up, and keeps your intestinal tract working smoothly.
Hey! I don't know if it has anything to do with the SBD, but last night I felt numbish/dizzy. And now, this morning I woke up feeling horrible. I don't like the site of food, and I just feel so sick. I am shaking a tiny bit. Thinking about food is making me sick to my stomach. The only thing I can think about that I want is some soft serve stuff from TCBY or a scoop of icecream haha. Or just some vanilla with a lil choc. syrup hehe. But , seriously, I feel horrible.I just want to sleep all day. I can't get up/
Daisyflower, I find when I do not have a variety in my menus from day to day I get the "sick of food" feeling. As well if I use too much fat in cooking etc, I get the same feeling so I make sure only to use a little but enough to get the benefits. Also i think in the beginning it is normal to feel this way and I have heard that day 3 and 4 can be the worst. I don't know where you are at but it I was starving yesterday on my day four.
Jojo I don't know if I have hypoglycemia but I know if I do go too long between eating, I get a headache, sometimes even a migraine. I get a horrible acidy empty feeling in my stomach and will eventually eat anything in front of me no matter if I like it or not.
The first few days I was hungry and weak, I walked to the store across the street and was really winded when I came home. But I have found if I eat every few hours, I feel better. Don't give up, it is normal to feel this way, remember, you are putting your body through a drastic change right now. Just stick it out and eat as often as you need to and don't feel guilty about it. I have only been on this 5 days and it has already gotten better. Hope this helps and hope you feel better
yea. I couldn't get out of bed, but then I ate some peanuts and felt a lil better. not much. then i had cream of broccoli, which i read was ok but i didnt pay attention to the phase one rules lol. oops. but i think its ok. and i got my no sugar added fudge pops. so it'll all be ok. and i'm munching more. but on good stuff.
Thanks for you suggestions everyone. I have some V-8 in my fridge and I could add some broccoli to my omelet. I'll try phase I again tomorrow and see if I can get through at least the first 5 days. It's good to hear that it does get better after a few days.
I am hypoglycemic. I did have some shakes the first three days, but it went very well otherwise. I did find that eating some cheese or nuts helped with the shakes...my mom (who is hypoglycemic too) always said that eating sugar would help you swing back up again, but makes the next crash harder, so eat protein, which stablizes you (it just takes longer!). I think if you can make it through the first three days (my mom says it takes that long to clear the sugar from your system), you will feel as great as I do now! The only time I had the shakes since then was when I ate an Eskimo Pie "Slender Pie". I think it was the sugar alcohols, so I am avoiding them. Otherwise, I have had so much more energy than before! No dips in my blood sugar during the day, which is a miracle! Try it!
Hi! I'm Hypoglycemic too. Did you by any chance consume any coffee with your breakfast? The reason I ask is that coffee or any beverage with a lot of caffine (sp? doesn't look right) can cause you to crash. Everytime I drink coffee I crash, which is a shame because I really love coffee!
