Default Any former Weight Watchers on the Beach?

I would like to try the SBD but I'm having a really hard time realizing that I don't need to count points to lose weight. Did anyone else have a tough withdrawal from WW? I've been trying to do WW for the last 17 years and obviously it is not the right plan for me since I'm fatter noW than ever before. I'm just so afraid of pigging out on this plan. How do you know how much to eat? It's been forever since I've listened to my own body that I don't know how to anymore.

I have 2 young daughters and want to finally get my eating under control for them. I don't want them to have this same struggle in their adulthood. I also have a terrible time with low blood sugar so one of my doctors recommended SBD.

What should I do before starting SBD? I feel like I need to make a shopping list and have some more phase I things on hand.

Thanks for any help you can give me
JoAnn

Welcome, JoAnn! We're glad to have you here.
Have you bought the book? If not, there's enough information in the FAQ to get you started. If I were you, I'd read up on it before starting. Really familiarize yourself with the plan. And then stock up on groceries, and away you go!
Your body WILL tell you when you're full. Forget about the counting.
And you might have a headache for the first few days while your body detoxes from the sugar.
Hey, if we can do this, ANYONE can! Come and join us!!

JoAnn - This is the easiest no brainer of a way of life, I don't like to call it a diet cuz it's really changing the way I eat and the way I think about food. I have absolutely no cravings and don't even look at sweet treats any more unless its a piece of fruit

I was on WW a couple years ago and i findthis plan much easier to follow. Cause now i just know which foods are good and which are bad. WW for me took too much work figuring out points and if i ate stuff that i didn't know the points for it was just bad. You'll find the things you eat on SBD are very low point anyways so dont' even think about it and follow SBD and you'll do just fine!

Hi JoAnn,

I've done WW in the past too. When I first did WW (1992), I lost a lot of weight. Unfortunately I gained it all back. Knowing that it worked for me once, I was very inclined to try WW again. That was in 1997 or 1998 (whenever Points started) and I was never able to find my groove with it. Fast-forward to now... I'm the heaviest I've ever been .

I decided to try the SBD for several reasons:

1. I've been watching my mother (who has diabetes) losing weight & getting healthy on SBD.

2. I needed to relearn how to eat. I was constantly starving & not eating full meals, just grazing. And worst, I was craving sugar morning, noon & night.

3. Definately took the "I can eat whatever I want" philosophy to the extreme. I always stayed within my Point range on WW but I abused those points so bad . Did you know that a pint of Haagen Dazs Low-fat, frozen yogurt, coffee flavor is 16pts (yep, that would be a meal to me... I know bad, very bad)

4. What did I have to lose? Weight!!! I couldn't be worst off than where I was.

I'm now on phase 2 & I can definately see myself doing this as a WOE for life. Good luck!!!

Yep, been on and off WW for five years now, lost and gained the same 15 lbs over and over and over. Finally realized it wasn't working and I'm a newbie on the beach, still trying to get through the first two weeks.

Thank you all for replying to my desparate message. Jo, you sound just like me. I graze all day and eat a lot of carbs and sugar. I'm hungry all the time and soooo tired, even after a good night's sleep. Everything I read about hypoglycemia points toward doing the plan, forever. I think I will get the book and get started!

Has anyone bought the latest book? I think it's a cookbook.

I'll see you all on the Beach!

Hey JoAnn - I am a former WW'er. Lost 30 lbs. on it. Gained 10 back. Couldn't take one more minute of obsessive-points counting and the failure I felt each time I went over points for the day.

Oh, and the junk I ate on WW. Fat free cookies and chips galore. Made me tired.

You're going to LOVE no longer having to obsess over your points. You're going to HATE having to toss out all that high fiber/low fat junk you've probably got laying around. But really, it's so worth it. I lost 10 lbs. in the first two weeks of this and felt like I'd eaten alot healthier than I ever did on WW.

I'm so thrilled to just eat better choices and not worry about whether or not I've gone over half a point. I don't obsess about food like I used to...and I'm only in the first week of Phase II.

You eat until you're full. (well, stop before you're full because you know, you'll feel fuller 20 minutes after you're done eating) 3 meals, 3 small snacks. Use common sense...don't eat six eggs at one sitting!

I usually start my day with 2 scrambled eggs, some turkey ham and cheese tossed in (low-fat, not fat-free cheese). Then chase it with V8 (blecch...but it's nice to know how healthy I'm eating)

If you don't have the book - get it! It tells you what to eat and not eat, etc. There's a list here, too. But I really liked having my hands on the book. Also, it was great for all the recipes in it.

Good for you for doing this for your daughters. I sure wish I'd been taught at a young age, how to eat. I grew up on Pepsi and pretzels!

Definitely get a shopping list ready before you head to the store. Start with the list of Phase I foods here.

Keep hanging out with us here for more tips. It's a very helpful bunch!

JoAnn - I did buy the cookbook. Haven't made anything from it yet but plan to soon. It was also nice to have the refresher part in the first chapter.
