Well I have been on the phone for the last 2 days and found out that I will not be covered by my insurance company to have the surgary . So I am bumbed!!!! I am now going to go back on the low carb lifestyle and see if that will work for me! But I'm not done, I WILL stay strong (i hope, lol) and loose this weight one way or another!!!
BELLA, HANG IN THERE as my motto goes!
What insurance company do you have? Why did they say it would not be covered? That's what I'm afraid of when I finally get up the nerve to start the process. I do not have any of the co-morbities that are "required" not diabetic, proved I don't have sleep apena, no ashma, no high blood pressure, just fat! and miserable!
Yea that's my problem, my insurance is Aetna and my policy has previsions in it. I have to have had a BMI of at least 40 for at least 5 years or 35 and a co morbitity. Well I don't have any co morbitity and my BMI has only been 40+ (no higher then 42) for the last 3 years at the most.
So that is it. And I agree I'm going to hang in there. My husband is kinda happy that I can't have the operation so he is pumped that he will help me get the weight off. We'll see.
hmmm. very very interesting. it sounds as if you can't have it NOW, but maybe in a year or two. trust me. you can STILL develop the dreaded comorbidities!!!!
but for right now, you have your health, your lovely children, and hubby is back!!!!!
don't leave us!!!!
and barb, honey.. you have arthritis. that counts as a comorbidity.
Hi Bella,
Don't give up! I was in the same boat you were and had plans to get my LapBand surgery done in Mexico as a self-pay until my husband's company added a new insurance choice. Lo and behold, it should be covered! I'm still waiting for approval, but my chances are good.
Also, I was amazed at some of the things my surgeon's office told me are considered medical co-morbidities. I didn't realize that incontinence of the urinary variety (do you all like that phrasology?), depression, GERD, and sleep apnea all count. I have read that someone who is 100 pounds or more over their ideal body weight has a huge chance of having sleep apnea and probably doesn't even know it.
Have you talked to your doc about lack of co-morbidities? When I mentioned that I was afraid I might not have enough co-morbidities to my surgeon, he pretty much pooh-poohed me and guaranteed me that I do. I wonder if you do too and don't realize it?
Well I would have to have a comorbility that is listed on the insurance and I do not have any of them, now the doc I was dealing with conciters all of the ones you listed as a comorbility, but since my insurance company does not recognise that, they do not count.
